Hi all,

We have just cut and baled the hay in one of our fields. I just wanted to double check how long we should leave the field before the horses can start grazing on it.

I seem to remember a field should be left 2 weeks after being cut ?!

Thanks,

Hi I have just had mine cut for hay and was wondering the same - I wondered if I get rid of most of the hay left on the ground after baling would it be ok to put them in to eat the edges of the field that wasnt cut (mostly thistle !)

If it has been dry, and the grass left isn't wet and festering, so to speak, I'd put them in fairly soon. I always have in the past. We flailed ours last year, so the grass was left chopped up on the field. We meant to keep the horses out for two weeks, but they broke in. They weren't remotely interested in the cut grass, just the lovely short green stuff and the edges that weren't cut.
