How long before the results of vetting are known?

I'm in the process of buying my first ever horse and put a deposit on a fabulous girl last night. I've decided to have a 5 stage vetting done as well as a Strangles blood test and of course am now on tenterhooks to know the results. Just wondering how long it typically takes after the vet has been to find this out? I intend to attend so will they tell me on the spot or how does it work? Many thanks in advance!

as above with everyone else but i feel your pain! when lily was vetted her seller messaged to tell me she’d passed and all had gone well, but it took the vet a couple of hours to call - i couldn’t get excited until i heard it from him and it killed me!😂

crossing my fingers all is well for you!🤞🏻

It’s the strangles test that will take about 48hrs, the vetting will have an immediate result.…a word of advice….if it’s positive don’t waste time running it two weeks later again just get the horse pouch washed straight away.

In the 'olden days' before mobile phones Dad would attend a vetting on my behalf as I'd be at work and then I'd have to wait until either he, or the vet who'd carried out the vetting could get back to their landline to tell me the result. It used to take forever and Dad would often chat for England so by the time he got home hours had passed 😬🥴

When I got Lari vetted the seller text me to say the vetting had gone well and the vet would ring me in five mins. Longest five mins of my life.

Bloods take about 48 hours.

They'll call you before they see the horse to check if there was anything specific you wanted them to check out and also to ask what you want to use the horse for. They'll then ring you after with results. 5 stage takes a good 1.5-2hrs. So you'll hear the same day.

They only send bloods off if there was an issue after you bought the horse, they don't run them automatically. They'll just collect the bloods in case...strangles I'm not sure about. I've always had bloods taken but never needed them to be checked...ideally you'd collect the horse very soon after the vetting anyway. Good luck!

I think the op was asking how long it takes to run the bloods in respect of strangles test.

Bloods that are taken on a vetting will last 6 months if your horse develops issues during that time.
