...extensive dentals will be part of a Pre-Purchase Exam (PPE ahahaha) given the trend towards fillings and extractions and all manner of fancy procedures and congenital defects. There have been a number of posts about (and increasing publicity by vet practices offering) specialist dental procedures being necessary in a range of ages. I know we have come a fair way (cringes terribly, still, at the televised episode of The Yorkshire Vet who 'did something' with a dental rasp in a horse's mouth with no spec and its tongue pulled/held out of one side of the poor thing's mouth) but it's getting crazy. Probably necessarily.

Possibly a good idea. I bought my horse about 13 years ago and a few months later he was found to have a broken tooth which needed extraction. My insurance refused to pay out as they said he could have had it when I bought him. It was only after the vet wrote them a letter that they agreed to pay half of the £1500 bill.
