Question in title really

We were having a disscussion at the yard about how long it took to find peoples Horses's my friend took 1 year to find my share Horse Nelly. Iv'e now been Horse hunting for 2 months.

So how long did it take you to find yours?

Er... about 10 minutes :)

No really... I was toying with the idea of getting my own whilst I was at a riding school. the same day I started to seriously think about it, one of the students came in ranting about selling her really nasty TB that she could neither ride nor handle or, frankly, get near without being injured. Then she came up with price that made him worth a look.

Next day we bought him and he was in his new home the weekend after. He's the softest kickalong you could ever meet.

I advertised in the paper for one, got 13 calls of people with horses that they wanted to sell. Fielded the calls, picked one to see first.
Went to see her on the Saturday she was at home Monday lunchtime.

She was meant as a project to sell on, she is now 4, i've had her 2 years and will most defo not be parting with her.

Good Luck in your search. try advertising for your new friend.

About 2 months and she arrives tomorrow :D :D :D I wanted a cob at a reasonable price and I got one - although I'm a happy hacker, not an event rider but she's gorgeous and I'm so excited I could burst!! :D

Took me over a year and I eventually came home with something completely different to my original wishlist!
I wanted something 8-12 years old, lightweight cob type (pref Arab x welsh), well schooled and forward going but not silly and definitely not grey!
Came home with a 4 year old, middleweight cob x who has had little schooling and is grey.....white in fact! He's a bugger to keep clean but I wouldn't swap him for the world!
Good luck with your search :)

2 days!! I sold my mare on the saturday, called about the boy on the monday... knew I wanted him as soon as I saw the add, he had only been advertised that day :) Picked him up the following saturday...Id call it fate!!

Found him by mistake :D, went to view another but didn't like this mare but was also interested in getting a youngster, so was shown some youngsters, was shown his brother (3yr old) who I liked but couldn't I afford him even though my mum offered to pay the difference bless her) but I didn't want to do that and there he was in the same field, grizzling and bossing around his half brother and he muscled his way to see me and I thought there and then I wanted him, was an impulse buy I must admit and I paid to much (didn't even offer any less...durh:rolleyes:) nor actually look round at any other youngsters.

Perhaps it was fate :D

The ponies were both bought when we weren't really looking. Sister had been riding welsh mare at the local stables and they were sending her to the sales as she was completely unsuitable - of course we ended up buying her instead. Similar thing happened with her gelding - his owner hadn't had him long and was pretty scared of him so we started riding him and a couple of months later ended up buying him as they wanted rid. My lad took a couple of months to find. I was looking for a cob or mw mare, preferably 8 years or older and ended up with a 6 year old TB gelding. We were looking when the prices were pretty high so had to compromise a little! Love him to bits though. :)

sounds like fate!

The Horse I'm interested in, Isn't even advertised for sale, found out about her through Facebook! I'm going for my final viewing on Sat (which also happends to be my 21st birthday) so excited, I'm taking my deposit with me so fingers crossed, could just be the best birthday present ever, granted its from myself but still :D:p

Didn't take me long, about a week after I started looking. I knew the moment I saw his picture I wanted him. He wasn't the size I wanted but it didn't matter he could have been a fire breathing monster when I met him but I fell in love from the first picture on the website!!

I think it was about 4 months if you include looking at adverts and being to scared to call them:rolleyes:

I wanted a nice easy going, safe hacking and 15h grey gelding which I thought I'd found a 2 hours drive away, but he failed the vetting and I was devistated!

I have ended up with and thankfully I might add, with my easily stressed and OTT in personality bay, 16h SFx mare who I adore the bones of. She was with a dealer just 2 miles from home too.

How did that happen?!!:confused::D:D

Took me one week to find my first one, he was the 2nd horse we viewed. And tbh i dont know about the second!! I was just having a nosey on the net and seen her (still had 1st horse). Then about a month later my boy had to be pts, so 3 months later we decided to go view her. She was the first we viewed. Viewed on a Wed, vetted and delivered the next morning :o

How exciting and a wonderful 21st Birthday present as well.

Least your having a second viewing, I went to look at him again (just so I could think to myself yes I'll be sensible and look at him again...but really I was just taking someone else to see him so they had a chance to talk me out of it seen as he really wasn't what I was looking for) not that it would of worked!

Hope everthing goes well, go with your gut feeling and fill us in when you've got her home :)

Thank you :) x

This is my 3rd viewing off her :D I havn't been able to stop thinking about her, She is the opposite off what I wanted though hehe but they do say opposites attract.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Bug xx

I think the secret to happy horse buying is to not look! I was just window shopping when I saw this picture:
honrosofield3-1.jpg

I couldn't stop thinking about him. I had that picture saved in my head and thought about it every day, wishing I could afford a horse like that.
2 months later, still just window shopping, I saw his picture again but at a lower price. I had to get him out of my head, so I called up, not wanting or needing a horse, hoping she would say he had been sold.

Nope, he was still there, no-one had even looked at him. She sent me this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vPkzkUcz30
and I didn't stand a chance!

He may not have interested anyone else, but two years later I am still besotted and couldn't wish for a nicer pony.

Took me 16 months!! I had no confidence so took things really slowly. I wanted a traditional gypsy vanner, total plod etc, ended up with a 15.1 mw show cob who is quite forward going but I feel totally confident with him.

Hope all goes well for you, good luck and have a great birthday.

KatPT - Don't take this the wrong way but...

...you would of been a FOOL (a complete fool) not to have bought him! :D

Haha, thanks! I can't believe no-one else called for him in 2 months, but he is just too little for the Spanish lovers. More fool them. Although he is pretty 'special' sometimes!

Took me a year and a half. I was quite specific in what I wanted, and after having been up and down the country viewing horses, I eventually find my boy 20 mins up the road!

Well I was horse hunting. Saw Buffy on day 2 of horse searching on horsemart. Rang up, tried her (the only one I tried) et voila 3 weeks later and after two trial rides , she was at home with me :D never looked back she is a FANTASTIC mare :D I know I am very luck to have her though.

This is the biggest problem.....everyone trawls the internet looking for a horse & don't seem to bother with asking around etc. so people travel miles looking at horses & most of the time the viewing doesn't go well as the horse is wrongly described. Don't ignore local adverts & word of mouth. This method worked for centurys. Sometimes the internet is not your friend & costs you money in travele & wasting of time. You should be able to find what you want within 30 miles or so from home. I got both my quality show jumpers like this & didn't waste my time on the internet. ;)

One horse was the 2nd one I viewed & the other was the only one I viewed. We'd asked around & someone knew exactly what we wanted & called us when they found him. We viewed, rode, had him vetted & brought him home.:)

Took me about 4 months to find Fred. Made numerous calls, locally and further afield, but they were all either unsuitable or already sold! Just happened to be in my local saddlery one day looking at the notices and there he was, an 8 year old grey pure arab. Went to see him a week or so later one saturday and he was home with me the following weekend! 11 years later, we're still going strong, although he has slowed down a little!

First pony - I can't remember, a couple of months I think...

Current horse a few days - I spoke to the YM about livery and said what sort of horse I was looking for, couple of days later [after the YM, YO and RI had put their heads together] I was offered one of the horses at the yard...
