Heloo,

Just abit of a rant really, been looking to buy my own for quite a while now! I dont want anything to flashy, just a nice safe, all round horse under 10 in the east mids area. Im starting to get abit dis-heartened about it now...everything i ring up for gets sold the day before i view it.

And why do sellers allow people to come see their horse when its sold!! & tell them after ive decided i want it.

Sorry guys, just getting abit frustratedd!

Stop looking as hard and you'll fine one :)

Well worked for me anyway. My first pony found me and ended up buying her quite randomly without intention, and she was the best pony I could have asked for.
Second one, I already knew for years and was a spontanious offer to buy. Had to sell him sadly though.
Third one I have now, again, found me! Wasn't looking for one as such then as I'd just sold the one above...but got offered him and he's turned out to be the perfect neddie for me I could ask for.
And hairy....again found me! Got a text the night before....picked him up the next day!

So I've never once been 'horse shopping' :(

It took me a solid 9 months of looking to find my current horse. Personally I don't buy and sell willy nilly, my horses are all lifers :p

Are you sure you are making your intentions plain enough when you have decided you want a horse? I always offer a deposit to hold for a vetting (although nobody ever took one) and get things shifting along at lightning speed.

ETS having seen the previous posters reply...I actually got myself on the websites first thing every morning for those nine months. I only got my mare by being the first one to get there.

Ive been to see quite a few horses, most of them not as described, however the one i really liked & was ready to put a depsit down, the seller told me she had sold it yesterday, but allowed me to see it just incase it fell through :(.

Yeah, im constintly looking on the internet for horses...my aims for me to hopefully have one before the summer ends!

Thanks for the replys guys!

I got Lady because she went on horsemart at 10.30pm saturday night, knew she was it as soon as I saw :p So I rang at 9am the next morning, went to see her that afternoon, and put a deposit on her that evening. By the time I went to view her, the seller had 3 people lined up to come and see her after me, so I had to get in there pretty quick!!

I had seen 5 horses before her, had one vetted and it wasn't quite right... I saw Lady's advert and just knew, cheesy I know, but I cancelled another viewing to see her :)

Take heart. I am also still looking but my criteria are much stricter than yours - I want an appaloosa for hunting. Relax, keep looking and focus on your end goal. It is worth waiting to get something you want rather than accepting a substitute because you are desperate for a horse, which is what i try to tell myself every day. There are some good horses out there and you will find the right one. Good luck.

I agree, but I did take a subsitute!! and couldn't of bought better.

I guess there's a lot of truth in what people say when they say the horse will find you.

Good luck in your search, it'll happen just have faith.

It was almost exactly a year between selling my old horse and buying a new one- admittedly with a horse on loan for most of that year, and a few breaks due to school exams etc.
I actually didn't feel that inspired by my horse's ad- thought he looked nice and ticked all the boxes (although I hadn't really wanted another TB) but went to see him and fell in love. :)

It took me two years between horses/ponies to find the "one". I had a highland who made 14.2 but had a bit too much Arab in him to trot like a highland should. I then sold him on and eventually bought a two year old grey dun gelding who didn't stop growing and made 15.1. No county shows for him but he made up for it by being a great weight carrier, a real gentleman and the nicest highland I have ever known.

I think your problem is probably the type you want, it is what a dealer I know calls the "I want" horse. So they are in demand and will be snapped up very quickly, I know when we went to see Fany the woman selling her had phone calls about her as we were viewing.

I think it is a matter of getting in asap, maybe even advertising. I don't know how much you want to spend but have you looked at Safe Cobs and Safe Hacks, they have a great reputation and are reasonably priced. Just to add I am in no way connected with them.

Good luck with your search and hopefully you will soon be posting pictures of your new ned. :)

I have been looking for months! I am always on the websites all day every day in case something pops up. Everyone has told me to relax with the website searching and the horse will find me!

Haha! You just wish it would hurry up!

Know that feeling well. It will happen and it is worth waiting for.

I wasn't looking to buy a horse for a few years but Tilly came to the yard to be backed and sold. I started working with her after being told she was a monster to catch. The first time I met her, she came strolling over and placed her head on my shoulders. That was it for me.

Looking for a companion for her a month ago, I was looking for a Welsh C and ended up viewing a New Forest. Well, she came home within 4 days!

The right horse will find you. Don't give up hope and let us know how you get on.

Am still looking! Was meant to go view one today but it got sold yesterday.
Don't look too hard and don't get desperate! :)

I share the frustration!

But, heard wise words from the vet on Friday. She is failing more horses than usual at present. Thinks us wannabe horsey buyers are getting a bit desperate.

not sure if i have found the perfect horse yet!

i have had plenty of good and a few great ones, but none that were perfect.

I have had my perfect horse since I was 14 (21now) but she wasnt my perfect horse when I first got her.

I am hoping my other perfect horse is in my field as we speak will know when her baggage goes hehehe.

No time at all, I wasn't looking for horses either time.:D

The first one belonged to a boyfriend and my brother bought her for me as a Birthday present.

The second, a friend called me up, announced that she'd found the perfect horse for me and for me to get my butt over to Carmel pronto. I did, and she had.

Haven't found the third one yet despite having eight of my own here, I'm not looking.
