That brushing boots were for when you're riding and not grooming a horse?

That "Go large" means go around the outside of the school?

That "standing off" doesn't mean stopping in front of a jump?

Please feel free to add your own :D

I'm sure there are more that I haven't remembered!

My unhorsey OH asked what "over-horsed" meant, after hearing a horsey person use those words.

After I explained, he then adopted "over-..."into our domestic non-horsey language, so we now have:

Over-Beered.

I'm glad I wasn't the only brushing boots victim!

I can't think of many right now although I did only find out my horse had a belly button in the last month or so!

" skipping out" to my husband meant actually skipping - with a rope!!! how he related that to anything i did with the horses is beyond me!

Also - when I was a wee slip of a girl and just started riding - I was asked to get the sweat scraper after washing the horses - I replied " but he isnt sweaty" Innocnece is awesome!

ps I love the "girth extender" google search! happened a few weeks ago to me - My mother nearly died of shock looking over my shoulder! :)

that "hacking" isnt what it sounds like :o

up until i was about 7 i thought it was a bit strange that people were hacking while riding horses... thought they were hacking down trees or something hahaha

That 'lunging' doesn't mean you do gym lunges around the manege, or mean that you are training the horse to perform a gym lunge on a 20m circle!

Number of non-horsey people that look at me completely bemused as to why I was 'lunging' my horse - haha!

My hubby leaned to ride about two years ago. His instructor kept on telling him he needed to use his core muscles. It took him over a year to ask her where his core muscles were ;)

My sister in law frantically looking around the school at the letters looking for X..when I was asking her to change the rein :D

I used to work at a riding school and a child couldn't understand if we told a horse to "stand up" (frequently shouted where I worked), we didn't mean from a lying down position, we meant stand still.

I remember holding a horse that was fidgeting about and after telling him to stand up, some exasperated child looked up at me and said "he IS standing up!"

And they also used to struggle with change the rein, change the diaganol...basically anything you asked them to change! Think they thought you meant a physical change, i.e. get off the horse

As a kid, I thought a horse being 'bright' meant they were intelligent rather than on their toes (but...horses don't have toes either....)

I only found out very recently that if you store carrots in water they last much longer! :o I'm 50 in a couple of months and no-one thought to tell me because they all assumed I knew! I don't feed a lot of carrots anyway but always wondered how people managed buying up those huge nets of "horse carrots".... so now I know! :p

I never knew this!:o

When I was talking about not having Fly covered, but opting for AI...my oth half wondered why her insurance would have to change for her to have a foal. That made me giggle.

Another one he has come out with is when he was watching me teaching once. He said, "why did you keep saying that she needs to work more on getting the horse off the forehand...surely you don't want a horse to rear when you're riding it" :D

There are loads I have heard from OH, parents, friends etc. will post as I remember them. X

I made some comment to my other half about us 'probably going to the yard for the next thirty odd years' to be met with a horrified expression, he thought they had the same lifespan as a dog.

I also always thought my 'inside' reign and 'outside' reign should be the other way round as a kid and it always confused me!
