How long do you expect gloves to last?

I purchased a pair of ROECKL RIDING GLOVES
Description:-
This lightweight and elegant close fitting glove, is made from vesta synthetic leather. It provides an excellent sensitive feel on the reins and gives a remarkable grip. etc etc

Anyway, have used them a maximum of 6 times, and just jumped once in them and already they have a small hole where the stitching has come away on one finger and the material has all rubbed through (the top layer) inbetween the last two fingers.

I did really like them as you can really feel through them, but really need a pair that last a bit longer for twenty quid!!!!!!!

I've had my roeckls for a couple of years now. I used to keep them just for comps, but then started using them every day when they got a bit tatty. Probably towards the end of the summer last year. They are quite obviously worn now, but not holed yet. I thought they were quite good value for money as they have lasted much longer than cheaper thin gloves i have had before. I hate riding in thick gloves.

I find that it really depends on what reins I am using. I now only use leather gloves with normal rubber reins as the others all get chewed up very quickly. I've had my roeckls for a couple of years and alternate them with MacWets, but I only use laced leather or smooth rubber reins out of choice :)

I bought the Roeckl XC gloves years ago, and they lasted AGES, then I lost them. I bought another pair last autumn, and about a third of the grip had come off after I wore them twice  was not impressed. And they now have a hole where the stitching has gone.

I bought them purely because the first pair were so good and lasted so well, and was really disappointed.

I had a pair of Roeckl Chester gloves and wore them once a week for a riding lesson, after 6 months the surface started to disintegrate so I sent them back to the manufacturer and got a brand new replacement pair free.

Since then I've had 4 or 5 pairs, the grip does wear off but I can't find any gloves that fit as well as they do and they are still very grippy so I replace them every year or so.

I'm a bit of a collector as far as gloves are concerned, and have several pairs of Roeckl gloves in various styles for summer and winter.

My boy is a toad to load and the last time we tried to get the blighter to load I ruined a pair of Roeckl's - was not a happy bunny afterwards.

However, I do find them good for general riding, especially if its wet on leather reins. I bought a pair of the Harry Hall deerskin ones (childrens' size coz I've got small hands) and the stitching around the rein finger started coming undone. I took them back to the tack retailer where I bought them, but they weren't helpful - poss I should have taken it up with the manufacturers direct.

I've given up buying the cheap and cheerful cotton gloves with the "sticky" palms on them; normally it takes just one riding lesson to wear them out!

The gloves I'm wearing at the mo in the warmer weather are the "Mountain Horse" crochet-backed ones with the leather palms/fingers. I've had some good wear out of those and will buy them again; but if it's raining I'd wear the Roeckl's for better grip.

I just 'binned' my last pair of Roeckls - they're leather though :D However, they are still sat in my bedroom, as they will still work tbh.... no holes yet! They're about 2-3yrs old, ridden in most days, hail, rain or snow! They just look very tatty now :p

Did buy a pair of lovely gloves the other day, Mark Todd ones?? Anyway, they're black & grey leather. Thin enough to feel through, thick enough to protect my hands (which always suffer as I have really stiff hands, they get sore very quickly :/ ) and great to ride in!

Will probably buy more Roeckl gloves when I can find the ones I like again, as I need a pair of the insulated ones for winter really if they still make them :/ Stupid hands! Silly glove companies not stocking the ones I need! XD

Forgot to say ... I've got a pair of the Mountain Horse crochet back ones, they're great. I've had them about 4 years, and they've only got a little hole at the tip of one finger (probably due to my long nails lol).
