How long do you keep your horses tails?

My girl has a lovely long thick tail just above fetlocks - only sad thing it that its white (well yellowish brown usually - yuk)

I imagine Chex tail must be almost touching the ground by now, I did trim it last May though

, up to about his fetlocks. I don't see the point in cutting it, the longer for the flies the better. Besides, its all dreadlocked lol (that makes me sound like a terrible owner

I think that long tails (even on dressage horses) make the horse look unbalanced when they are plaited. M&Ms and natives/traditionals are fine with long tails. Anything else looks wrong. Seriously - even half an inch can make a difference to the look of a horse. If you look at Bob the Cob on the left of my siggie, don't you think he would look a bit odd with a long flowing tail?

And for those of you who have long tails to help with the flies, what about your poor horse dragging a wet muddy tail around with him, laying against his hind legs and making them all damp and nasty as well!

In the show ring, if a pro has their horse with a slightly longer tail, eveyrone assume they are trying to cover something up ...
