Not including riding but just general mucking out, yard duties, grooming etc. How long do you spend with them each day at the moment (I know summer may be different as a lot live out). I do 2 visits per day at the moment as shes in overnight in winter.

Hour and a half ish in the morning and about the same (sometimes a bit longer) in the evening

Full livery monday-friday so less than 30 mins not including riding

Weekend DIY- I spend more than 2 hours with him not riding

During Week - 30-45mins in morning....2 hours + in the evening.
Weekend - 1-2 hours in morning.....3 + in the afternoon/evening!
Would spend more if I could

My foal is on box rest..so mucking her out with her & mum in there takes aaages! Then I like to spend some time with her grooming her & fussing her etc. Then i'll take mum out and hand graze her for half hour, groom her etc. The 2 boys are out at the mo but have access to their stables so I have to skip them out and tidy up all the cr*p they have left/dragged accross the yard, fill up and soak yard haynets, fill up the trough, groom the boys, tidy muckheap, poo pick bottom paddock, tend to baby's injuries, feed horses & walk the dogs!!! Who need the gym eh

Mine's on DIY, out in the day and in at night.

Spend about 45 mins in the morning and then 10 mins in the evening so usually less then an hour (On days I'm not exercising him)

I only do one visit at the mo but that will change when they change fields probably as will want them out earlier. so will be about 20mins in the morning.

And then in the evening I spend about 2hrs there, excersising them both and try to spend some more time at the weekends grooming, cleaning etc as well as riding so am prob there about 4hrs in total ish at the weekends but obviously spend more time there in the summer!!

Mines on box rest at the mo so we,ve done some serious bonding these past few weeks!!! i spend about an hour in the morning befour work mucking out hay water ect then she goes for a 10min walk and grass nibble then i brush her and carrots and cuddles on leaving pretty much the same in the eves 2 I DO LOVE THAT GIRLY HE HE X

5 mins in the morning turning out, then straight after work I muck out/bring in/grooming can be a quick 10 minutes to half an hour/then riding for 30 mins (only a youngster) all depends how much time I've got, my horse never seems to complain anyway! sometimes I spend 5 minutes in the field at weekends just watching and talking to them, rest of the time I spend gabbing and joking around with the other liveries.

30 mins in the morning which is turning out, mucking out, filling water buckets etc. And then at least 30 mins in the evening doing hay, fetching in, grooming, changing rugs etc. But TBH I ride pretty much everyday so am usually there for 2 hours in the evenings.

Check in the morning, check in the evening - less than 30 minutes in all. I can't ride her anyway, can't muck out field because it's too big, can't groom her because she needs a mucky coat to protect her from all this rain, can't bring her in from the field as she's too foot sore over the concrete...
I do feel bad about it, but it doesn't help that's she's so far away either. Hopefully when she moves closer to home in a few weeks time I'll be able to spend longer with her. Not much though because there's nothing to do!

Sorry to crash the post but what on earth has your poor foalie done to need box rest? Hope it gets better soon.

Ours are our 24/7 so about 30 seconds in the morning to check they are upright and still have 4 legs, and about 2 hours plus in the eve which when I break it down makes him sound like a very spoilt horse!

Always a groom and then occasionally one of; a massage, holding a likkit for him(!) washing legs down, applying some sort of beauty product to hair or nails (well, hoof treatment or the current fad, mane & tail conditioning re-growth stuff!) or a nice hair cut (trimming/plaiting/general preening for show season) or ... willy cleaning! (V dirty in that area, needs it often!

) If I have ridden it takes time to wait for him to cool down and eat dinner before turn out again etc.

wow that is a LOT of faffing and preening for a horse who isn't into it and can't wait to get out in the field and roll to mess it all up

I'm lucky enough to have nice friends who turn mine out in the morning

mainly cus I start work so early, and they don't. Then it's 1-2 hrs after work, mucking out, poo picking, grooming and riding if the weather is good
