I generally do about an hour - the course thats close to me is one that you have to go all the way round to get back where u started and that takes an hour at a decent canter - (obviously with a few breaks in between) there are 55 fences on the course and i deliberately miss a few of the little ones out but my horse who is really fit comes back pretty pooped.
I tend to do only a short amount of xc schooling just keep down on the wear and tear to my horses legs. Especially if the ground is hard or really soft.
Depends on how the horse is going I think. If I have no probs with anything, I would say about half an hour max. I sometimes feel like I haven't made the most of it, but I'd rather quit while I'm ahead instead of making him tired and end up making mistakes.
That said, my horse is now straightforward, if I had issues to work through (like water - which I used to have issues with
) I would be there long enough to deal with them - which would be as long as it took really, without exhausting either of us!
Plus I am not really going to move up any levels (as I am too chicken) so I am there purely to remind him what water/ditches etc look like
i went today and you have to go round most of it to get back to where you started...it took about 45mins to an hour...but there were a lot of breaks for monty ( and me!
Yeah i would agree 45-mins an hour..works the horse hard..but not long enough the horse gets overly tiered and gets sloppey,,(potenial ingury) so yeah a hour
