How long do your horses take you?

Far too long! Spend an hour doing stable chores in the morning and then go back in the evening to ride and put to bed, I usually faff in th evening so I can take anywhere between an hour and half to 3 hours. But it's my chill out time so I don't mind.

Mine live out, and normally takes me an hour or so to do feed, poo pick, check/ adjust rugs, pick out hooves and put out hay.

I admit I sometimes forgo the poo-picking if it's piddling down though!

I have one on DIY and one on grass/retirement livery.

Takes me half an hour in the morning to turn out 2 or 3 horses, muck out (deep litter shavings), hang haynets (fill 14 at the weekend for the week ahead), fill water, make feeds and sweep up. If I'm lunging then I give myself an hour. Usually brought in for me in the evening during the week.

Horse living out gets a handful of carrots twice a week, so 10 mins each time :p

About 15mins from start to finish am & pm. At the moment that's feeding in field, swopping rugs, picking out feet, checking over, haying & checking water. Evening the same. Soon they'll be in & it will be same time. Feed, rugs, feet, turnout, then do all jobs except put bed back down. That's to do my one, daughter does her own at same time. Given she takes longer to do stuff, I check field water, fences, sweep up etc while she's finishing.
To go quicker, I prepare as much as possible. I hay on floor, but at wkends I do nets ready to take to field, or for daughters stable, or piles ready for in mine. Daughters stable has a bale of straw in on a sat, mainly on bankings which are lowered during the week. Never cross the yard without a purpose. Eg I bring hay in with the barrow, tools go back when I empty it etc. Hooves picked out from one side. Rugs put on from off side, chest strap & off side straightened, leg straps/fillet string done while walking round behind, then near side straps. Summer its just over 5mins with just fly repellent to do instead of hay & rugs. Of course though, nearly always there longer grooming, riding, faffing, but can do basics in that time when needed.

If i can get on with it (i.e. no chatting!) one on DIY takes me 35 mins in the morning and a bit less in the evening, this includes a 15-20 minute round trip to the field.

My routine usually goes
Arrive at yard, feed everything (all feeds pre made the night before and left in a barrel, yard rule is first person on the yard feeds everything)
Pull my horse out of the box, tie on yard while she is eating breakfast, remove bandages and change rugs
Muck out, either leave banks up or set bed, sweep back
Refill or empty, clean and refill water bucket
while this is filling, take down haynet, fill and re hang
take wheelbarrow to muck heap
turn horse out (with 1 0r 2 others)
back up to yard, sweep yard, tidy & leave

Evenings
add bedding/pull bed down if necessary
Get horses in (at least 2) from the field
Wash legs/pick out feet
bandage legs & change rugs
horse in stable
Make feeds for evening and the following morning
Final check, leave!

If i am riding i can add at least 1-1.5 hours on to either end of the day

My other two are out 24/7 and not currently ridden so excluding driving time to get to them, they only take 5-10 mins each per day

20 + horses. 2 hours-ish in the morning to check, hay, feed and water. More if there is anything to doctor/any disasters/fences to repair etc. Today I have the farrier for 8 horses, another 2 hours gone.

An hour in the afternoon to check over, blanket and do waters.

That's only the horses, they are nothing compared to the others. I also have poultry to do, cats, dogs, rabbits and generally I have goats to feed. Currently, I have 30 week old kids, 20 are bottle fed 4 times a day, the others are clever little beasties and are already on the bucket.

Day gone !!!!!

Strange one this

I used to have 3 horses on DIY plus a full time job (albeit mostly working from home). 1 horse retired, 1 light hacking only and 1 competing at DR. All in at night. Used to take me 2 and a half hours, which included riding on arena for 40 mins.

Now I'm retired and only have 1 horse, why does it take me an hour to muck out, nets, water, groom etc???

3 on DIY and turn a friends out in morning. 2 hours in morning including half hour ride and 40 mins evening including making fresh feeds bring in bed down and chat.

Depends whether I am riding or not and if I am, how long I am riding for. I don't rush though and like to take my time but if I am just going up to sort them out and then come away again, I can easily feed, change rugs, skip out and fill hay nets for 2 in an hour. :)

I've got 4 in at the moment, if I'm by working it takes me an hour and a half in the morning to feed, turn out and muck out, then 30 mins in the evenings to get in change rugs and feed :) add hour or two if riding depending in what I'm doing.
When I'm working its half hour to feed and turn out etc in the morning and an hour at night to muck out and get in etc

i actually timed myself last night and it took me 25 minutes including taking her for a walk and 1 hour in the morning, when i dont ride that is. but i do spend longer just grooming her and paying her some attention
