Hello all,

I went out to purchase a bag of feed & when I came home there was a £5 off voucher through my door- typical!

The feed will probably last me a couple of months at least & the voucher expires the 11th Jan. So I I'm wondering how long it normally lasts as don't want to buy another bag for it to go out of date in the next couple of months! (Its dengie alfa-a molasses free, if that's any help?)

It should be fine if stored unopened in a dry place, most feeds have several months leeway unless you are buying from somewhere that has a very slow turnover, check the date when you go to buy it and leave it behind if there is not enough time left, I picked up some cubes a few days ago and happened to notice the best before date is May 2015 not that it will last that long.

If I am remembering correctly (been 5 years since I did there course) all dengie feeds have a 6 month BB from manufacture. But I have had feed thats OOD and never had a problem, its just dried vegetation not like it meat or similar.

Im still using (on and off) a bag of baileys light chaff bought in july 2013, it looks and smells fine!

To answer your question though the new stock of cubes we have at work is April 2015 and i would expect chaff to have a longer sell by date than cubes

I've used plenty over the date, however I did have a bag of hi-fi lite that I had to throw away half of this summer.
Stored properly, half went into the big bin, half left in bag & put into the big (rodent proof) trunk.
Got it out to tip into bin as usual & there was horrid dust in it - just looked like 'dried mud cloud' it was still in date by another 6 weeks, but I lobbed it out on the muck heap, not nice.

Brought 2 bags of high fibre nuts last week & they are sell by end April 15 :)

I'm still using a bag of Quiet Mix with a similar date. It still smells lush & looks fine, so I am not wasting it.
