How long does it take for a horse to settle in a new yard?

Not wanting to hijack another thread I was reading so thought I would start another one.

I have just moved my boy with his 2 friends to another yard. It was just the 3 of them at the previous yard and the same at the new yard. The move was just over 2 weeks ago.

The other 2 have settled so well it is like they have been there for years and whilst I appreciate my boy is more sensitive (tb x WB) and he is doing pretty well it is taking him much longer to relax in his stable.

At the moment they are coming in during the day and out at night and whilst very relaxed in the field he is still pretty stressed in the stable. It isn't an option to leave him in the field as he would be worse on his own when the other 2 come in.

I know it will just take time but wondering how long others have taken to settle?

Old lady recently moved and she's a stress head. She was neighing and neighing when she arrived but then she saw her old neighbour from our first yard and now is so so happy :) the yard manager is so calm and friendly too so think that helps :)

Depends really my gelding took a few weeks - in that time he was pretty hyper to ride and after two weeks he was totally settled and whinnying lots when tacked up after being brought out the field, my mare on the other hand who was 4 at the time settled instantly and you couldn't tell she had just moved or ever lived anywhere else!

Months and months. She was sold to me so had a new yard, a new owner and was quarantined for a fortnight. Extremely stressed horse who already suffered separation anxiety. Finally got her into a field with mates but the wrong owners! Owners advised the rest of the yard that she was dangerous, they wanted to take their horses out at 1pm and she was worried about being alone until 5pm, so nobody else wanted to share. Once she got moved into a field without daft owners, she became contentment personified.

How like his old stable is the new one? If he was previously in a stable where he could see other horses and now cannot, then this could be stressful.

When I sold one horse she went to a yard and did nothing but weave when she was in her stable. The owner moved her to another yard where she could see all around and wasn't enclosed and she never weaved again. Things like the view from the windows, size, roof height, light, can all make a difference.

I once tried to lead some ponies into their usual stables one evening and they refused to go in and the only reason was that the light wasn't on. So even the smallest detail can affect some horses.

Mine went to new yard (after 4 years) and new owner (me!). I thought he had settled down quickly but he has continued to get more and more relaxed and now, 2 years' later, I can see how tense he was when he arrived.
