Just a question, but I was chatting with a friend last night whose horse has been at a trainers and despite leaving specific feed for him, she thinks he's been fed on something else (probably rich in oats and molassess), leaving him hyperactive and spooky. Generally she's happy with the trainer and the results but wants her steady horse back rather than the spooky one she's got at the moment! We hacked out last night and she didn't even want to risk trotting him he felt so wired

Leaving aside any issues relating to 'how dare they feed him something other than the feed I want him to have!'....

now that he's living out in the field and being fed TopSpec balancer and chaff, we were wondering when her normal lazy calm horse is likely to make an appearance...

...does anyone know how long it will take for his system to detox and for him to calm down?

Any thoughts welcome!

I would also be more worried about what happened to the horse than what he ate. A reaction to food should wear off pretty quickly. He might be sore from working a bit too hard, upset by the methods used or by being in an environment he found uncongenial. If it goes on, it would be worth having him checked for soreness, and if given the all clear, work on rebuilding his confidence in the rider and life in general.

My friend is looking into those issues - I was just wondering abou the speed of metabolism and how quickly a they equine system can clear out the effects of a particular feed or sugar

I cant say for definate but I know Alpha A Oil sent my arab through the roof, it took him 3 weeks to get back to normal
