My loan horse is stabled part of the day through summer as she is a chunk. I soak her hay for as long as possible. Once soaked, does it last? At the moment, I put any 'leftovers' in the field, but don't want to be wasting it if there is another option
Thanks

Second this I use wet hay , any hay left over the next day often smells a bit .

I would maybe put less in and in small haynet so non wasted.

Hello!

I agree with the other replies regarding the hay going off within roughly 24 hours after soaking. I do prefer providing ad lib hay in the stable, rather than restricting it, but at the same time it's a waste to waste hay... Maybe monitor how much your horse usually goes through while he's stabled and don't give him more than necessary.

Just wondering if it's a good idea to soak the hay for 'as long as possible'? As far as I know it shouldn't really be soaked for more than 20 minutes, or else the nutrients will start leaching away.

Hee yes I do soak to reduce nutrients as she could live off fresh air but I never leave her without something to nibble on. Sounds like I'm not wasting by chucking out the stuff she doesn't eat that day, so thanks
