How long does straw take to decompose in muck heap?

It depends on the weather, (in wet weather it will rot faster) and the size of the muck heap and thus the internal heat build up. Probably at least 6 months in a big heap to use in garden etc.

Great thank you! Scotland-wet in a 12x12 muckheap so should be rotten down to fertilise with in 2 years?
