She's basically been on them for 24 hours, for an infected cut above her fetlock, on the outside of her cannon. She's on a five day course and I was just wondering how long before I see an effect. Thanks.

from my experiances it takes 24-48 for a loading dose and to start to "turn around" the process, if you get what i mean.
Having a mind blank on tech terms

I have a TB filly who gets given about four courses of oral AB's a year (she has pin legs and blows up from the smallest nick!) I usually don't expect to see a dramatic reduction in her cellulitis until about the third day and then all of a sudden it'll clear up almost over night. Funnily, she is on Norodine as we speak to a kick on the hock. We are at day three of treatment and all of a sudden it is looking much better.

Obviously this is just what I expect to see in my filly though.

Thanks guys. She's on Norodine.

Jesstickle, my mare is a TB and she's driving me crazy because likewise, she seems to get cut just brushing against stuff. Do you turn out in chaps? Was wondering whether I should - mind you, then she'll probably get a heat rash!

Sorry, only just seen this.

I just leave mine to it and swallow the vets bills because I think if I put her out in boots she might just tangle herself up and saw her leg off. I wouldn't put it past her! I try and keep an eagle eye on her legs as if I catch scratches early enough I can hibiscrub and flamizine and they don't tend to go anywhere. I'll let her off this one as she can't help being kicked poor girl.

She's heading for a course of intramuscular shots though as it isn't going down as much as I'd like. Sigh.
