my poor boy has been diagnosed with arthritis In his offside stifle, I think this has been rumbling away for years, all the signs were there but I think I got everything else checked out and ticked off the box , he was diagnosed with PPID around six years ago so all those subtle signs he was showing we just put down to progression of that as appose to this, I noticed recently he has been very reluctant under saddle so got that checked and changed, got him shod in case he was starting to feel his feet, lots of physio sessions and he was always grumpy on the offside rear, more recently he has started to be more and more grumpy, started trying to kick out at me when doing a fillet string around that leg, tweaked his diet to an ulcer friendly one and upped his forage to ad-lib, he has started to plait on the rear or even stop going down hills so thought enough is enough, vet was due for routine bloods so asked for him to take a look, definitely lame after a flexion test, he advised pain meds straight away and get him moving, been on meds two days and I've started in hand work, he still isn't happy and I thought considering the high dose he is on he would be feeling a little happier? Vet called today to ask how he was and was surprised when I said still reluctant, he said sometimes the pain is so severe that even meds can't fix it, I just want to do the right thing for this pony, should I be seeing an improvement this quick or do I need to give it a little more Time? Thank you, sorry its so long winded, there is a lot of history there
