Depends really. If he’s in the area he will squeeze me in, if not it’s when it’s convenient for him. I don’t mind though, he’s a good farrier and always tends to my horse without me there and even cleans up after himself!
It must be a pain in the arse for farriers to have to come back for lost shoes, especially if they are not really in the area. I do think charging a bit for fuel and times is fair. Especially given the massive rise in fuel prices recently that often haven't really been reflected in an increase in shoeing prices. Obviously, that's not the case for everyone, but when I think back over the 15 years I've had horses average shoeing prices in my area definitely haven't risen at the same rate as the cost of living!
