Just curious to know how long it will take for new healthy foot to start growing after a complete diet overhaul.

I took loan horse on 10 weeks ago and he immediately started having Pro Hoof and micronised linseed on a lower sugar/starch diet.

I don't think his feet have actually grown very much at all. Farrier trimmed off a little last time he was shod but nothing to write home about.

With a diet overhaul shouldn't his feet be growing? I was hoping that now he was being fed more of the right stuff, things should be cracking on a bit!!

Must add that he is 20 and his feet are pretty rubbish.

If he's shod it will take a while as the foot doesn't have the stimulation. It takes 12-18 months for new hoof to grow for a shod horse but only 6-9 for a barefoot horse. You may see a small change after 10 weeks but not a huge amount tbh.

Here's a photo of my horse's hoof, 4.5 months out of shoes and with pro hoof balancer and low sugar diet. Hoof has grown down roughly halfway and the growth is much tighter, angles of growth improved and much more heel.

Basically, a huge improvement.

Thing is you want see a difference very quickly in a shod hoof and don't forget your only working on the new hoof not whats already there. My 20 yr old has gone barefoot after having her shod for 12 years and she always had 2 old nail sets in her hoof but she's been out of shoes for 8 weeks and the nails nails have all gone. That's how quickly they have grown since shoes have came off.
