How long does it take for haylage to go through a horses system?

My mare had cow pats, took her off the haylage and only now (week later) her poo has gone back to normal.

Guessing it was the haylage.. could have been sugar spike in the grass? Nothing else changed.

When I opened a bale of hay that was more like haylage my boys poos went soft. I changed pretty quickly and I think it was only a day or so before they were back to normal

You're changing the whole gut biome to a less acid loving environment, I would expect that to take anything up to a month to produce the full effect, maybe even more.

Of course, it’s all related to the PH of the gut which changes when fed haylage - Is that correct?

Depending where you are you may have some grass coming through that’s causing it - we’ve had a grass growth spurt this week with this mild weather - the horse’s poos have gone green!

Anything between a week and a month. Its like us eating vindaloos for a week and then changing to a stir fry
