My current yard is the longest I have been on a yard and I plan to stay there long term . I have been on my yard 4 years this summer. So out of curiosity how long have you been at your yard .

15 years, had a gap of a year or so when I was between horses but there is nowhere else I’d have wanted to take my new youngster.

I’ve had horses for over 25 years and only moved once for reasons other than moving across the country!

10 years this month.

Initially with one of my (three at the time) horses on part livery, my other two were on DIY at a different yard and it was so tough. I cut down to two horses and when a pair of stables (of a block of four) hidden in the woods, away from the main yard, became available I jumped at the chance, moved my other one over, and have had two equines (nine in total!) on DIY in my own little space ever since. Have also been working on the main yard part-time for two years after stepping away from corporate life.

I adore it; it's my little piece of heaven, and is a pretty unique set up, certainly for Surrey - I have my own stables, shed & outside storage, separate from the rest of the yard, share the block of four stables with just one other person (actually the YO's daughter), have my own field across the bridleway, away from all the other DIYs, so there's no faffing around co-ordinating bring-in times, or last horse out etc, I can do as I please in terms of management, but also have assistance/socialising on hand if needed. And cover for holidays (what are they???) if ever required.

If I ever leave here, it'll almost certainly be because I've given up horses, for whatever reason. I'll never find better locally, that's for sure.

23 years, would have been 24 nut i moved house for a year. The yard is far from perfect, but it is the best in that it has 365 turn out, an ok arena, amazing hacking and it’s relatively cheap. The TO and hacking are what stop me moving

Never stayed at one as long as current one. Nearly four years but would leave tomorrow if I could find sole use. Woman in charge drives me nuts!

5 years. Even if I haven’t had one in work Ive held a stable there. They do DIY/assisted/full or competition livery and I’ve utilised most of those services during that time. Most definitely one of the best yards in the area for working/competing horses

3.5 months. I did love my previous place where I've been at for 5 years however it's not really suited for my new youngster and management has sadly gone downhill since.

The new yard is wonderful so far, with herd living for the horses, paddocks rotated and rested every 10 weeks. Nothing fancy in terms of facilities, very limited storage but I keep everything in my trailer anyway. There are plenty of tracks to ride on and a nice big arena. No undercover tie up areas but plenty of trees for shade. There are yards for use if horses need to be locked up for whatever reason. People there are all lovely and look out for each other. Best of all it's super cheap at $170 per month and only 20 mins from home.

I reckon it must be 14 years. It’s nice and small, not far from home and a good price. I don’t do large yards.

15 years, at home.

Before that 5 years at one livery yard and 5 years at another (the first also being a riding school I’d had lessons at for 8 years).

First yard was a riding school, livery yard and competition centre. Fabulous to compete or learn to ride at, less fabulous as a livery as facilities often not available and livery clients deemed the lowest priority. I left when the owner told me I had to take my turn having a mouldy bale of hay.

Second was a brilliant yard, mid size on a working farm and had a range of happy hackers and those out training and competing. Only left having bought my house with land at home.

3 Years at my current yard. Horse is 6. Bought him as a 2-years old and kept him stabled at his breeders'. Due to poor cae (mildewed hay, bad paddocks) I moved the horse to current yard. A horses' paradise. I even live there myself now, renting a small building on the premises.

(I feel so incredibly lucky to live so close to my horse. There is no way that I could ever afford a house of my own, let alone one with any land to keep horses. Housing prices in the The Netherlands have sky-rocketed, and I am on a nurses' salary.)

6 years. We bought the house, rented a field from our neighbour and have stables in the garden. Ideally we’d buy some land next to us but DH wants to move house at some point so hoping we’ll have our own land then.

I was at my last yard nearly 14yrs until it closed down. I doubt I would have moved otherwise. After 5 months at one yard which didn’t work out I’ve only been at current yards (horses at two different yards) 3 months.

Came to this village in 1978,18months later joined the yard I stayed at until my last horse was pts.two years ago.It was a wonderful DIY yard and I learnt so much from the owner and also other liveries. All horses have gone now

My goodness I can’t believe the length of time for some of you! I wish we had yards that good round here, everyone hops from yard to yard here as so many issues!!! Gap in the market here for someone that knows what they are doing and doesn’t over graze their fields 🤪

2 years is my longest and we left there as no company as it was mainly a retirement yard..otherwise would have stayed!

1 year. We have had the horse for 18 months, kept her at the yard she was at when I bought her to begin with, to get to know her with support from those who sold her to us. Then moved for better facilities and closer to home. Love both the yards we have been at, but this one has so much support which has been a godsend as a novice horse owner!

Cheating here but I been at my current yard 29 years nearly but then we own it lol.

Nearly 7 years, but I was with same yard owner at her other yard before that for 5 years, so 12, really! Before that I rented my own place for 13 years, but the owner died and benefactor didn't want horses on it!

2 years and hope to stay as long as it keeps going. It's idyllic, with the best hacking I've ever been able to get. I didn't think I was a yard hopper; I've only left 1 yard for a reason other than my life-changing. But on review, it is 8 yards over 29 years, so it only averages out at 3 1/2 years per yard.
