12.5yrs, moved to where I am now when I moved counties. Prior to that I moved about a bit for various reasons (needing 24/7 turnout/to be closer to home etc), longest was about 2.5yrs.
3 years at home this time .
Moved to livery with young horse for facilities but moved 4 times due to poor hacking and limited turnout ,mad livery owners , and clay fields etc....
So hard to find a perfect yard but I box out for arena hire ,can do my own thing, no drama etc and my horses seen very settled and happy.
Prior to new horse has been at home for 25 years
25 years and counting. It is my own yard at home. It just fits my needs. We have a competition centre about 100 yards away, are just off the Trans Pennine Trail and have safe village hacking. Only 2 acres for the lot though, but I use my arena for winter turnout so always have grass in summer.
Before that, I found yards variable. Ay one stage, I lived in a city, my work was in a nearby town, and my horse was in a different county! I did a lot of miles!
When my husband died, I did consider selling and moving to livery. Not least as mum had died shortly before (she lived opposite) and suddenly I was on my own. It was daunting. I was also lulled into perhaps a false sense of security by having a lovely yard where my horse went for holidays, that they could have lived in permanently. It would have meant no stress and an inbuilt social circle to boot.
That said, the price of that yard seems spendy compared to what many are paying, almost double what another poster on this thread has quoted in the past, and to have two horses there would be rather expensive! However, I do trust them.
For now, I am staying here. The village is lovely, the social group for the village is... entertaining LOL. Besides, the house has lovely memories as well as the more recent bad ones.
7 years and leaving next week due to the yard closing down
Going to a lovely competition riders yard though , only has 3 liveries and fabulous facilities so hopefully landed on my feet .
Been at the current yard 8 years. It's not perfect, but has good basic facilities including a nice school, plenty of turn out and some off road riding round the farm; and my horse seems happy and settled there. It's also in my home village, literally a few hundred yards from my house which is an added bonus.
I had a think about this overnight. My maths was off as I had more than one horse at a time, so current yard(s) Near home 2 years, stud 9 years. Previous near home yard 2 years, prior to that home yard 18 years.
Just over four years and planning to stay as long as we live here because it’s at home! I never stated that one at any of the livery yards growing up - the ones we stayed at the longest were a dairy farm for two years and a private yard for six years.
Where I am now is on a friends place , been here 19yrs . The yard before around 3yr ( only moved as friend bought her own place ) and the one before that 20+ years
