Thanks to Merlin deciding to sneak up behind Finn and nip him on the backside when his only exit route was through me, I got knocked over and trodden on by 400kg of Welsh cob this morning :(

Luckily he only got my right foot, which he's trodden on before, but my foot was sideways on the ground instead of flat and OMG does it hurt! I've been down to the surgery and got the practice nurse to check it over, she called the doctor in to have a look and they're 90% certain nothing is broken and it's just soft tissue damage, but I'm hopping around the house using a large piece of wood as a makeshift crutch, it's that sore.

Any ideas on how long it'll be before I can walk normally again?? Fortunately the boys are both out 24/7, so fairly self-sufficient, and the field is big enough that if I don't pick up for a day or so it's not going to be a disaster.

Done this a few times, actually a few weeks ago, still painful and swollen now but I just get on with it.

I did it very badly last year and I had a limp for a month! That was soft tissue damage.

I'd want an Xray, just to be sure nothing is broken! 90% wouldn't be 'sure' enough for me. There's so many tiny bones in the foot that something could easily have fractured :(
Could you go and request one at your GPs? Or nip up to Minor Injuries Unit, just to make sure?

I got stomped on very badly three weeks ago. No brake but for the first week it was unbearable - couldn't walk on it at all. Was sent back to hosp as doc was convinced they had missed a brake. The skin couldn't even be touched, a sheet resting on it was absolute agony! Turned out to be several, large infected blood clots sitting around the soft tissue damage. It is just now responding to antibiotics (2nd lot) and I think I will be able to wear a shoe in the next few days - it has been flip flops only. So, it will have been four weeks tomorrow. It was bad :( Good luck with yours xx

I'm not sure where the nearest x-ray machine is, to be honest! Last time I had one I got referred to Wick, which is a 90 mile round trip, but that could have been because it was a weird dental one. I think Thurso does have one (I Googled and NHS Scotland was talking about shutting it last year, but it doesn't seem to have happened yet), but that's still a 50 mile round trip and I think I'll need a referral (no A&E in Thurso).

Wonder if I could persuade the Thurso vets to put me on theirs - might be easier! :D

I had a horse I was leading trip, slip & fall, resulting in pinning my foot sideways between its shod hoof & a brick wall. Luckily thick soled boots took the brunt, but I had a few broken bones. Was still limping 6 weeks after, about 10 weeks till good as new.

Do it! ;) The worst the vets can do is say no! Lol
I'd just want to be sure :)
In the mean time - ice! Ice, compression, elevation. Did the GP prescribe any decent painkiller/ anti inflammatory drugs? Hope they didn't just go 'naaah, its probably just soft tissue damage. Take some paracetamol'. Makes me cross when they do that   :p

Oh no :-( I reckon it will hurt a lot less in a week (broke my elbow on tues and doesn't hurt much now) but don't suffer! If you tell your GP you are in lots of pain they will give you something :-) trouble with feet is its hard to keep them still all the time, put ice on it for 15 min periods and elevate it should help!

As someone recently wounded by a horse I can advise 1000mg paracetamol combined with 400mg ibroprofen ..you can add 30mg codeine to that cocktail if you wish. Never knew you could take that many painkillers at the same time but it seemed to take the edge off a broken collar bone and various other strains. Best wishes and hope the pain eases soon.

Ouch! Know how painful it feels, H jumped backwards onto my foot once before then stamping down on said foot, probably because I swore rather loudly and startled him!!

I found walking hard for about a week as the skin was broken and it was swollen so shoes hurt but had to wear them for work.

It was typical it occured when the scanner I needed to use at work fairly regularly was on the opposite side of the office to my desk :(

I didn't go to a and e...

I can fully reccomend arnica spray as felt it really helped.

Hope it doesn't stay painful for too long!

I am guessing not all at the same time!!!!
