Just flat work, not including jumping or lessons?

I have a 5yr old and I tend to school her for 40 mins max so she doesn't get bored or stale. Normally I school her to about 30 mins and when she does something really well I often just leave it there.

I did wonder if I am not pushing her enough as she's not sweaty when we've finished (she's quite fit though) and I do notice people schooling up to 60minutes and some about 90! So I'm interested in what others do? thx

I usually school for about 45 mins, but I am starting to increase it - want to build up to 1hr. I wouldn't school for so long, but I want to get him fit and with it being dark I can't hack out. I'll probably do less in the summer

It depends really. I can be in the school for 10 minutes or 2 hours, just depends how long it takes for me to achieve what I set out for.
Some times I go in the school and Arch goes fab from the word go, so we will prob only be in there for about 30mins. Then other days, it takes abit longer to get him going well and I can be in there for ages!

I'd say on an average day in the winter probably 50-60 mins, however if he has his halo on then perhaps 35-40 mins and his devil horns 60 mins plus!!

Same as that moonwalker! If Jeds having a good day we are in there for around 25-35 mins but if he's misbehaving it can take upto 45 mins. I dont like to go over 45 mins so he doesnt get bored!

If indoors i dont school for more than 30 min as it is very tight indoors so dont want to put strain on her joints. Out side prob about 40min I wouldnt school for over an hour unless she was being a madame. I dont think it is particularly beneficial to school for too long.

I have a 1hr lesson every fortnight, but I'm normally only schooling for 45 minutes of that. During the week my schooling sessions are about 30-40 minutes long, depending on how long it takes Meg to start listening to me, and how busy the school is.

With Chloe I only school her for 20 minute sessions as she is very quick to start working correctly, and I'm only keeping her ticking over

Plus I'm schooling her bareback at the moment to make it more interesting, and my legs can only just cope with 15 mins of sitting trot

Think mine are usually 30 to 40 min sessions, usually if he working well and has done evything i have asked i will end on that note,he gets stale quite quickly!!Like to hack out alot though, lol!!

That is when i get round to working im again, lol, have no incentive at the mo as weather to crap for me!

Depends really, I try to be in the school for 30-60 mins, but I spend a hell of a lot of time walking on a loose rein or walking in hand at beginning and end of session (4yo so taking things gently). So actual constructive schooling is probably 10-30 mins max. When there's other people in the school it's a bit different and it's more "exercise" than "schooling" so I ride for about 45 mins, with lots of walk to avoid collisions

on a normal night i normally school Frankie between 30 and 45 minutes.

Some nights he does need warming up a bit longer though as he can be quite stiff and likes to look around and rush off

Depends on what I am working on and How he is going. If he is not co-operating instead of beasting on and upsetting him or us both getting frustrated I will find something else to do and usually will only be 20 mins - 35/40 total including warming him up. Max I have spent was 70 mins on my own, especially if he is going well.

Normally school for about 30 mins, sometimes longer if i have the school to myself, get fustrated when there are a lot of other people in there. Have a half hour flat lesson every other week for half an hour and I usually find that's long enough for Alisha.

When I had my horse I would hack out for anything up to an hour and a half then school for 20 to 40mins depending on how he was going and behaving! I very rarely just schooled. But I do a lot of schooling out hacking as well so they don't realise they're being schooled and they get used to just going that way naturally if tha makes sense??!!

on average 45/50 mins in total, i spend at least 10-15 mins in walk and trot to warm up and at least 5 min walking to warm down (if its not too cold/wet.!).
sometimes it can be 1hr if i get carried away.! generally less in the winter and more in the summer to keep fit for eventing. i like him to have an easy time during the winter (compared to the summer anyway!).

I don't school long at all - I know my horse doesn't particularly enjoy it, so when she does comply, I try a couple more times with what I'm trying to do, then leave it at that.

With Ru who's 4 i do 25 - 35 mins including warming up and cooling down. A lot of that is in walk and trot at the mo as i'm working on transistions, plus his canter is till very unbalanced so only do one or two short ones on each rein.

No more than twenty minutes - horses go into schooling fresh if you do not over do it, I rarely do not achieve anything in that time, and if it is not coming together we would do better trying another day.
