Have any of you had a PM done on a horse/pony?

We STILL haven't had any results back from Tweenie's PM...either preliminary physical findings, blood work or pathology/toxicology.

As they told me to remove the other horses from the same field until we'd found out the results, incase of toxicity, I was expecting them to come through a bit quicker than this.

Is it normal? She died three weeks tomorrow.

Have called Leahurst and they just said there were no results on file yet. I was just hoping to have heard at least something by now. I feel I'm in limbo. Also, how long does it take to receive the ashes after you've opted for a private cremation?

I lost my boy 6 days before christmas last year the vet asked if I would allow them to carry out a PM as he was only 17 months old & died of a tumour in his sinus. He went up to Newmarket & it was about 6 weeks until I got the results.
Its hard to be patient patches but it does take time. xx

I found out straightaway.
I guess it would depend on what they are investigating although 3 weeks seeems a long time.

I would imagine it depends on whether they are taking tissue samples and/or bacteriological studies, some times these can take 6 weeks.

I think it depends on what causes their death. I had a mare that died of colic on the way to the hospital. It happened on the Friday night of a bank holiday weekend. The yard owner was with me and as she owned a large livery yard she was really concerned so the did it saturday morning and called that day to let me knwo their findings.

But I also think it depends on what other emergencies come in !

On the PM, if they were concerned for toxins they would be running more tests which can take several weeks to get results, ditto if they thought it was viral, than if it were something obvious that could be seen, ie brain hemorrage.

When we had Cairo cremated, we had his ashes back in just over a week and he is now in the grass in the summer field which has been eated by Chancer and Farra, so in a way a part of him lives on.

Plus he had the last laugh, the wind blew in the wrong direction as Andy and I scattered him and we both got a mouthful as well so have a part of Cairo inside us in the true sense.

I hope you get peace of mind soon with the PM and can also lay Tweenie to rest.

Don't know about the PM question, but of the two horses I've known who were cremated, one took just over 3 weeks to come back the other just under one week. Both went to the same place. I think it just depends on how busy they are I guess.
