As above, Just bought online the Pony club 16" T4 for my flat withered flat, short backed 14.2 Arab and sat on it today and felt very perched and insecure, I am going to ride in it tomorrrow for 3/4 hr and see how it feels then. Problem is that if it is not right I have to return the saddle in the same state that it came to me, understandably, so I cant ride in it again to see if it feels better after a few more rides, or I will be unable to return it. i am beginning to lose the will to live regarding saddles. Borrowed a friend Heather Moffett Vogue saddle on Sunday and fell out the side door because saddle was slipping and had to get off to do up girth and when trying to mount ned took off with me half on, landing luckily on soft ground , still hurt and badly bruised!!!!!! The HM vogue is not an easy saddle to get back on to from the ground.

mine never did ! my mare is short straight and wide though, I have just bought a second hand ideal and saddle fitter has removed and adjusted flocking and for the first time(well other than bareback) I feel like im part of her rather than stuck ontop of her :)

although I should add I have a tg t6 high wither on my ish and it fits like a glove not perched etc, so maybe its just my mares shape !

I think you would be better in the T4 cob saddle. Have you made sure you have the right gullet fitted? Thorowgood have a fitting guide with templates on their website.

I have T4 high withered for my TB and felt the same as you for the first few rides - thought I was going to tip over his head but it bedded down pretty quickly after a few rides. I bought it as an interim but I find it so comfortable now Im still using it two years on.

Thank you for your replies, I am still unsure what to do, if ride in the saddle more and it is still not feeling right I will forfeit the right to return it, but conversely if I persevere it might be ok, oh dear, I just want a saddle to fit my boy.........!

You might feel bwtternin the cob saddle, but you'll not find one of the new ones in a 16" unfortunately - this is exactly the same situation I was in with my arab x.

The T4 cob perched really badly too. I have realised that the older griffin style ones fit my horse better for whatever reason - I think it is because the panels are smaller - in either the pony club or, my new revelation - the older thorowgood griffin Endurance saddle, which has a slightly larger seat with the same size panels. I had wanted one for years, but they were like hens teeth, and I finally managed to get hold of one in a 16.5" xw fitting!

The only problem is they are only adjustable with fish, but they have a much more close contact feel than the newer T4 ones.
