How long to cover 5 miles?

Looking at a local competition venue and it's 4.7 miles away. At the minute we have no transport, and hiring is expensive (no suitable towing vehicle so would be hire box).
How long would 4.7/5 miles roughly take on horseback. It takes 10 mins in car. I don't know if it's feasible yet as the main route is along a dual carriageway type road, although there are many back roads.
Would be limited to walk and trot.

I remember hacking to shows all the time, now I'm completely lost when it comes to working out distances!

An average horse walks at around the same speed as a human so about 4-5 miles per hour. If you are adding trot into it then I reckon it would take about 1hr.

Thanks, I reckoned about an hour too. Thinking of Belle Vue Farm, unless you fancied risking your life and sharing transport and coming with? They have a novice (2ft) pairs class.........

It depends on how fast you want to go, if you walk the whole way around an hour and a half would be about right, if you trot all the way around 40 minutes. I know I don't run fast on foot but I can do 6 miles in an hour and I'm sure horses trot faster than that!

Just over an hour I would have thought.
I did a two and a half hour hack the other day and when I got home I went on an online route planner - map my run, I think it was called - and that was 10 miles I did. I was only walking and trotting with I think one canter across a field. Not bad time wise thinking about it!
