a pony (14.3hh cob type thing :D) fit to go hunting, probably for 2-3hrs at first then longer maybe depending on speed of hunt and jumps etc. He was hacking once a week but have brought him back into full time work, still with one hack a week and 5 days of half hour in field doing walk, trot and canter up hill in field don't have time to do hours of hacking unfortunately. Been in full work for just over a week now and started increasing time in field by 5 mins.

thanks:)

If I remember from my text books, you can get from scratch to competition fit in about 8 weeks. I guess most hunting people will start end July/August and aim to be hunting fit by the start of the season. 2-4 weeks of walking road work then building up to 2-3 bits of fast work a week, with the rest hacking.

I also don't have much time for long hacks so have been doing more shorter bursts of faster work. Which probably isn't a bad thing for my lazy fat hunter!!
