Planning on taking my trailer test some point over the winter so I can get a trailer to take Arlo and friends out and about more next year.

So how much previous experience did you have and how long/how many lessons/tests did you take to pass?

Thank you!

I did mine with a day and a half course - which included the test itself. No real experience before, had played around a little with a friend's trailer but I couldn't fathom reversing in any particular direction! The test centre I went with were fab, brilliant training (9 hours broken into a 6 hour day and the second day was 3 hours including the test). So glad I did it this year, wish I'd done it ages ago!

Zero previous experience: unknown to passed in 5 days: one half day and one full day driving before test day and then a full day including the test in the afternoon. Days inbetween all this were the weekend and I practised the reversing manovoure extensively at home then.

I did about eight hours training then passed first time. Once you get the hang of the size/braking/length/reversing it's pretty easy.

Thanks guys! Was looking at one of the 3 day courses with test at the end. Had no previous experience but been practicing a bit this week and don’t seem to be finding it too troublesome! So hoping 3 days would be enough! :)

I took my test 3 years ago so can't remember exactly but think I had 4 or 5 2 hour lessons and passed first time. So glad I did it!

Took my test successfully this year. Did a two day course so a full day of driving and towing the first day and an hour or so the next morning and then the test. Good luck. Having transport has literally been the decision between keeping horses and not keeping horses I was that bored of hacking!

That’s how I’m feeling at the moment, we have no school and hacking is limited - I feel like having transport will help with me and Arlos progression so much. Just being able to box up and hack somewhere different would be a dream!

A little bit of practise in a field with a friend and then 2 days training and test the third day. Passed. It is quite simple really. Although I am rusty reversing now as not taken the trailer out in a while!

I took a course where they reckoned they could get you through on a day's training, followed by a morning and test in the afternoon. Instructor wasn't in the game at all, on his phone all day, barely noticed me. Needless to say I failed. I was so annoyed I'd gone that route - if they advertise such a short turnaround, you think they'd train you to get you through.

Went elsewhere and had three day's training, then a morning and the test in the afternoon. They were horrified when I described the previous place. Passed no bother.

I'm sure some people can do it in a day, but to be honest it didn't cost me a whole lot more to do the course (though I did take time off work to do it in a block of days). If I had to do it over again, I'd definitely go for a few day's training. Felt like I'd wasted a massive amount of money with the first, and I'm still salty about it!

I only did a half day of tuition immediately before my test, but we've got a wee trailer I could tow on my normal licence so I'd practised (mostly reversing!) with that.
