Numpty question 1089 by me, but I have never had to call the vet out before!

Ellie has a large cut on one of her hinds and other cuts on each leg. Can't work out how on earth she has done it but there is no way I can bandage the huge cut on her hind without getting a kick in the head (thought I'd leave it to the expert

) Her leg isn't really swollen but I hosed it for a good half an hour to make sure, which also cleaned the wound out.

Daisy was covered in runny crap when I took her sweetitch rug off so am wondering if a dog got in and had a go at them. It seems odd that these cuts are on both sides of Ellie and on the back of her leg too, just very strange places had she caught herself on something.

I am waiting for the vet to ring me back but how long do they take? Should I put the tea on or wait

If its the oncall vet - normally only 10 - 15 mins unless they are on another call which it may be longer.....

oh no poor ellie!!
its a bit of a how long is a piece of string, sod law they'll call as soon as you sit down with your tea

it just depends on what emergencies/ appointments are happening at the moment, i would of thought they will contact you in an hour though x

Mrs Elle what vet are you waiting for? We have discovered a new vet from Bawtry he is brill and reasonably priced, his call out is only 80p per mile round trip from Bawtry. I will give you his number if no luck with yours.

Thanks, will leave it until 6.30 which is an hour after I rang and see whats happening. We had plans for a nice long ride this weekend, think Ellie heard about it and broke herself so she didn't have to go!

I have rung Minsters but if you have a number for someone else please let me know!

If I call an emergency line out of hours I would expect a response within 10 minutes.

If I call my vet direct on mobile (which is most of the time!) then if he doesn't answer and I leave a message I will always say it's not urgent, he will call me back the same day without fail.

If they don't call in an hour, try again, just in case the pager or whatever it is hasn't worked. OH says that his pager doesn't get a message if it is out of signal, and the pager message doesn't retry, unlike a text message!
