HOW LONG TO WAIT - BSJA MOAN!!

Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but we spent 4 hours waiting to jump on Sunday - 4 HOURS!!!!!

Seniors was supposed to start at 12, we were in the second class, so got there for 1pm. There were over 50 entires in 1st class and 60 in the second. Organisation wasn't good, put our number on with secretary, but wasn't supposed to (not told!) so tacked up with 20 horses in front of us to find that our number wasn't at the collecting ring so we had to go last!!!
Didn't jump until 5.10 and withdrew from next class as it was soo late!

Now I know why we prefer dressage, pre-enter, get your time and roughly know how long you're going to be!

Not being a seasoned BSJA person, is there any reason why they don't have pre-entry only or even limit the class size??

Good job I didn't have much money with me or I would have eaten my through the cafe menu while I was waiting!!!
 
I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your BSJA, where did you go jumping?

At least you now know that you have to put your number with the collecting ring so you won't make that mistake at the next show (that is normal)

Also what I do is phone up the centre and annoy them all day asking what class they are on so that I leave home at the right time.

Not having to pre-enter and not limiting classes is one of the advantages of BSJA - although it does mean we can't moan about loss of entry fees and balloting like the eventers

It's not just BSJA!

Our only local indoor venue runs both bsja and unafilliated days and it's just as bad.
I have DR this sat and SJ on sunday and have booked a stable so that I have somewhere to wait as I hate leaving them tied to the trailer.

At least with enter on the day you don't lose money if you can't make it. It's horses for courses if you pardon the pun

There is usually a blackborad or something similar just by the entrance to the ring which everyone writes their number on so that you can work out what order/where in the class you are to go.

Shel - was that Hartpury??

I took one look that there were juniors first (hartpury always has masssssive classes) and thought s*d that and stayed at home.

Did summerhouse today, rocked up at 9.30am left at 12pm and jumped my two classes and waited until the end of the second!!!
 
It's similar in Yorkshire MM.

I have been to very busy BSJA shows though and you'll know not to go so early again - also, a bit of a school boy error not putting your number down!

You end up having to wait around all day eventing from my experience, only it's after and not before!
 
One of the problems at the moment is that you arrive at a venue only to find that there is a qualifier running. These seem to be rife at the moment. We went to Fieldhouse a few weeks ago & there were 95 entrants in the one class (a qualifier)....absolutely ridiculous!!!!

By the time we started jumping the horse, rider & us grooms were totally fed up. The only reason I can think why classes aren't limited is pure money reasons. Every one paying £13-£15 a class & all paying £2-£3 for First Aid Cover. You are talking alot of money!!!

This is the way it is in Show jumping I'm afraid, been like it for years and has never changed.

You've got to do what DieselDog said & ring to see which class their on & how many entries they've already got.

You are going to have to hope you are really bad at eventing as it can take 3 or 4 hours for them to get the results out at the end of the class - and you have to sit there in all your posh gear - good luck!

Me too, time for a change, at least with eventing you know youre there all day, with best intentions and ringing ahead you can be at aBSJA show most of the day and only end up jumping in one class.
 
I think as long as you make sure you put your number down you would be fine !! you can normally do this while the class before is runnign !!

Ive had this a few times at norton heath and on sunday im off to merrist wood to do last 2 classes which will be on at about 6pm !! woo hooo
 
Yep, it was Hartpury! I am aware of putting numbers on the collecting board, but they had 3 different arenas that you had to go to. Secretary gave you number and told us they would radio up to the 1st collecting ring, the one without a jump, then they called you from that one, to the one with a jump! Then they called three numbers to go down to the main stadium into the holding arena, then into jump! I wasn't the only one missing their number off the board - seemed to be alot of confusion going on - never mind - all down to experience!!
