Not too sure what you're asking though - can you explain a bit more clearly (some of us are hard of thinking

That depends on so many factors, not least how fit your horse is now. If you are going to have to start a fittening regime that you cannot do any fast work until you have got the horse fit.
If the horse is fit now, then test the water with some short hacks out from the yard and some jumping at home. Then go out and do stuff.
Yes some horses take while to settle, some can go out and compete the very next day, it depends on you and the horse.

i just mean that when i get him(delivery on monday) could i go to a show in a week a month or should i wait a year same with the hunting and hacks ??

Without wishing to sound rude or patronising, do you have an instructor who could assess you with the horse and comment on your readiness, then it simply comes down to how you feel with the horse.

Now is the ideal time to start following hounds, although some of the early exercise meets have been cancelled owing to F&M, they generally start the season fairly gently..it would also be good to consider building up to a winter show jumping season if you have transport in the evenings - you have pretty much missed the summer season

Its not really as simple as saying, you should wait 'X' amount of time...

If the horse coming to you is hunting fit then after a week or two of settling in and assuming you are confident with each other then there is no reason why you shouldn't go hunting within a week or two....

However, if he isn't hunting fit then you'll be looking at around 6 - 8weeks.

If the horse doesn't take the move well you could have problems getting him to settle enough to do more than potter around the school.....

There are sooo many factors involved it really is impossible to answer.

If I take a competing eventer in during the eventing season it could be that I am competing it within a couple of days if it already has entries in etc The same with hunters, if a new hunter comes in mid season thats been hunting regularly then typically it will be out hunting the same week it arrives BUT these types of horses are usually used to moving around a lot....
