How long (very roughly) does it take suppliments to kick in?

For example joint suppliments in an older (20s) horse. When roughly would you expect to see improvements etc.

Would you start to suppliment as problems arise in a younger horse as it ages or would you start them on something early, before joint problems rear their ugly head?

I was talking to my OH about it the other day because I was wondering what if anything to give the oldie I'm going to provide a retirement home for with a view to looking after my boy as he gets older.

Depends on the supp. A yea sacc supp for stomach upset I'd expect to see a difference in a week or so, a joint supp I'd expect to see a difference in three weeks, one for hoof growth maybe six weeks and probably similar for a general vit/min or a calmer tbh...
