How long will straw keep?

Horse is about to be turned out 24/7 for the summer and I've just gone and bought a load of straw without thinking if i keep it inside, will it keep till they come back in for nights in winter? About 6 months. Thanks in advance.

It should be fine if under cover. It usually lasts all winter, after all.

I buy round bales, and they keep for years. I had some that was three years old that I bought in for feeding, used it to bed down a shed and they would rather eat it than sleep on it. If its baled dry and kept dry it keeps a long time even outside.

When I ran out recently and the farm were too busy to bring me my usual big bale I collected some little bales that had been well stored and made, I want to sat not last summer but the one before. They were absolutel;y fine and I'd have gladly been given the rest of them rather than my big newer bale.

we have some ten year old straw we got given for free......its absolutely fine!
