How long would this take you?

Tbh You say she took 7-7.5 hours and you took 8.5 which is for arguments sake an hour more. I think that's a perfectly acceptable increase for someone new to the job and routine. I bet If you did it long term you'd be on the same time. I'd really not be worried by that! ... Just make sure you eat and sleep properly or you'll be knackered!

I agree that once you get into your routine you will be much quicker. Two of us used to do 20 large straw boxes, including five massive foaling boxes, along with prepping 15 horses for lunging or riding and then washing them down after, hay, water and feeds and get it done in about four hours, including a coffee break, but it was down to a rigid routine.
Now I turn out, muck out (including one particularly mucky one) and hay, water and feed two in about 30 mins. The YO also does two and, like me has worked on yards, and we have a standing joke that if someone used speeded up video for a few days, our relative paths would never vary from day to day, such is the strictness of our routine. We both work full time and that is how we ensure that we get everything done effectively. It also leaves a bit of time for any necessary rug changes, filling field water or unexpected problems.

I reckon I could get it done in a fortnight.

Seriously though, it sounds like a lot of work and very tiring. But it sounds like you are doing pretty well at it and you'll be up to speed soon - once you get used to all the tack, where everything is kept, figure out ways to minimise trips to the tackroom/ muck heap etc

You will get use to it. When I went back to work after having my daughter and went to a yard I was so slow that others had to help me complete my boxes but after a few weeks I was on the same level and I had one extra to everyone else. Once you know where they pee etc. it takes less time. Also there is way to get things done quicker too once you know the routine without cutting corners. I definitely say an 8 hour day.

Thank you all! You have reassured me that i am not in fact very slow!
Had another new routine to learn today as owner was away, so exercised all 5! Had someone muck out and water though..... So a bit easier!
