How long would you long rein for after 2 year break?

I am re backing a horse after her having 2 years off(1 box rest, 1 field rest) with a sacroiliac ligament injury.

I don't want to lunge her, plan to work on straight lines on roads to strengthen her back end. I'm pretty sure she will be fine to get back on, but want to get her a bit fitter before riding again. However how much of a difference will there be in walking/long reining for 10 minutes and up to riding for a few minutes and up?

I was thinking walk in hand for a 2-3 weeks and build up time then get on for very short periods of time?

I usually long rein for 6-8 weeks before introducing lunging or work with a rider.

Never had anything that's been off for 2 years, my longest I think has been youngsters with about 6 months off on their winter break.

I like them to have a decent amount of muscle over the back before adding the saddle and the rider (another benefit is 8 weeks of long reining gets me pretty fit too!).

Thanks! That makes sense. Long reining proving tricky as I only have short lane then road, which is fine when I have another person on car watch but tricky on my own! Will be easier when fields dry up!
