How long would you expect him to be footsore after pulling a shoe off?
My lad pulled a shoe just over 3 weeks ago and took some of the outside wall with it. Farrier managed to get one back on but had to trim his hoof quite short cos he had made a mess of it. He is sound on one rein and all but sound on the other - Have been riding him out again as he is fine unless he stands on a stone in which case he hobbles for a few strides then is fine. How long do you think it will take for his sole to harden up again? I have been using cornucresine(sp?) every day.

I had a very similar problem with my lad a couple of weeks ago. I bought NAF Hoof Hardener and painted that on for a few days which along with a couple of days off seemed to sort the problem out. I think though that if my lad was still a bit of after 3 weeks I might get the farrier's opinion on if there could be anything else causing it.
