How many adults on here ride ponies/ small horses...up to 15H

I am 21 and just 4'11. Last year I had a 13hh sec b who was so much fun and took me hunting for the first time. I looked into getting a 15+ hh so that I could do lots of things with out being restricted but I have now found the perfect horse. 14hh coloured traditional gelding called Diesel. I can do showing, dressage and all sorts on him. Although at low levels in general, when I join the TGCA they have their very own TOYS show which I can enter workers, dressage, showing, it's limitless!! Its not all about size, its getting a horse you feel comfortable with, feel safe on and can do the competition/ hacking that you want on.

So so so agree, what a great post :-) it doesn't matter if the horse or pony is big or small (so long as able to carry rider weight comfortably) its individual choice and what you are happy with. I'm 5ft3 and also ride a 13hh welsh b we hack and school, with the odd dressage comp thrown in just for fun.

I sooo agree that you should go with the horse that you love.

At 5'6" and with quite long legs I do get a few raised eyebrows/sniggers when I venture into the showing/dressage/SJing areas. Never in endurance, funnily enough! In that sphere, we're pretty average.

The thing is, I will never have anything that isnt an arab, or part-bred. So I am unlikely to ever get a horse much bigger than 15hh. Especially as the crabbet-bred arabs are,my passion, and they don't come in extra-tall.

Thankfully, I'm a skinny minny, so my weight isnt ever going to be an issue. And I stick to doing what I love, which is riding my fabulous little mare, and ignore the ill-informed opinions.

I am loaning Arabiangem's 14.3 PBA and also have a 15hh cob and a 15.2hh TB. We have loads of fun in many different disciplines (tho not much this season :( )
The thing that annoys me is that when we compete in unaffiliated SJ all the classes are determined by fence height rather than size of horse/pony or age of rider. My cob is a super little jumper and nearly always does a double clear, but we always compete against the kids on nippy little ponies and turning Blaze is a bit like turning an articulated lorry, lol, so we rarely get placed :(
A minor moan, but a few senior classes wouldn't go amiss :)

Im 5'4" and ride a nearly15hh (14.3 just over in his bare feet!)

Thats big enough for me, I dont compete but I think It is a nice size, not too big and not too small! LOL

Hi Debs! Fancy seeing you here ;-)

I agree - some senior classes would be awesome. But hey, we all have fun on our littlies, right?!

This is my "biggest" horse at 15.1h, (they range from 14.2h/15+h to this guy, 15.1h). I am 5'10" and have been riding under-15.2h's for the last 15 years. I'll never go back to the 17 handers I used to compete in dressage. Small is definitely good!

My Appaloosa is 15 hands and I've had him for eight years (since I was 14!) and wouldn't swap him for the world. I am 5ft8 but don't look too big on him and he carries me fine. I mainly hack and hunt him (why not do some hunting with yours? No age restrictions there!) but we have done a bit of everything. I have looked into Showing and although I am not that interested, I was put off when I saw that I was too old to compete in some classes on my boy anyway!

I ride my daughters 14.3. I did make her take some photos first so I could make sure I didn't look too big!!! He copes absolutely fine and can still mess round with me so must be ok! I'm 5'3 so not exactly tall, just my riding horse is 16.2 so he feels tiny. My other horse is 15.2 and he felt the perfect size when he was ridden.

I've just got my new mare at the weekend :D I'm 5'5/6 she's just about 15hh, but quite chunky and rides like a bigger horse. Not quite sure what we're going to be doing together yet, having fun, but I probably won't be showing, never really been my cup of tea, may try some stressage or low level jumping tho, so won't have to worry about height/age restrictions.
