As the title says really.

I'm slowly gathering a collection of bits and am seeking to add a Copper Waterford loose ring to the collection!

I have (all for one horse I might add!)

SS Full Cheek Snaffle - don't use it!
SS Hanging cheek French link - don't use it
Happy mouth straight bar - ermmm....getting the picture, don't use it!
SS Waterford Pessoa - use it occasionally, horse not keen on poll action
D Ring Copper Roller snaffle - bit of choice at present but horse leans on it...

Sweet iron with copper peanut loose ring French link - going to give it a try!

Tempted to try the Neue Schule Wateford but can't decide. Also looked at Mylers and KK Sprenger bits. Like the look of the KK's

i dont want to think about how many I own - a girl on my yard started asking me about bits last week, I then produced my 'bit box' which seems to have one of everything, inc a couple of NS and Mylers which I have stopped using - have cost me a fortune!!!

Eeeek!

I laugh as I've only this horse 12 months and before that I never once changed a bit.

Funny how things alter the more you appreciate your horse's way of going. By that I'm referring to the fact that I've only been riding 3 years and am getting past worrying solely about staying on and what I'm doing...if that makes sense.

We have a weird and wonderful collection, including bits we have inherited (an ornate stallion bit with an inhand bridle) and an ancient Dr Bristol my cousin used to use. At least 20 now as we never throw anything away!

SS loose ring snaffle (x2) - used all the time on my horse, at dressage comps for t'other horse.
SS straight bar snaffle - too small for either horse but still keep it...
Sweet iron french link - too rusty to use but can't bring myself to throw it out.
SS hanging cheek snaffle - never used.
SS french link - bought for mine, but she was awful in it... so never used.
SS waterford loose ring - used for schooling and hacking most of the time.
SS dutch gag - used occasionally for schooling and hacking in company
SS straight pelham - used occasionally for schooling.

The last 3 (+ snaffle) are used on rotation for my mum's heavy horse - she takes the mickey and leans too much if she's just ridden in the snaffle.
I've been tempted by the NS/Mylers but the price has always out me off.

I must have 30+ now, but that is over 10 years of buying, lol, plus because all my horses are different sizes from 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 i can't use the same sort of bit on all of them!

My favourites are-

Myler high wide Comfort snaffle with hooks (works wonders!),
eggbutt french link snaffle,
Pelham- but only with 2 reins, i hate roundings,
Ported slotted kimblewick.

I currently have 3 on ebay and PF is now the owner of 4. All were the wrong size for B or bits I'm not fond of - like rubber pelhams or 6 inch snaffles.

I have kept a Happy Mouth straight bar - B came with one that was too small, so I sold that one and bought her one that fits. And I have an eggbutt french link that she likes. Also have a Rugby pelham for inhand showing.

Happy mouth (hadn't tried one of these until a few months ago, and I really like it!)

Since I got back from the UK, lots and lots (muaaaaahahaaaaaaa!!) Everything from a german hackamore to traditional loose ring snaffles. My faves are the happy mouth ones and the hanging cheek french link that Antifaz is going so well in.

Not that many I dont think.

A hollow mouth loose ring snaffle - curently in my box in the TR.
A full cheeck french link - As above
A KK snaffle - As above but think this will go on ebay as my horse doesnt like it.
A loose ring bradoon - The bit that I use
A fixed cheek weymouth - for use with my double.

Think thats quite reasonable.

happy mouth mullen mouth - on dressage neddie
loose ring sweet iron - on all the babies
SS waterford on hard puller XC
sweetiron with copper center rollers with small 'globe cheek pelham' type cheeks for PC pony that can be tanky XC. She has same mouthpiece but with loose ring for everything else.

favourite - any happymouth mullen mouthpiece or any sweetiron mouthpiece

emergency brakes - american 'western curb' long shank with a leather curb 'chain' - kind bar mouthpiece with tiny port but leverage to get full control

thinnest snaffle you've ever seen - gets dragged out and put on small pony, normally ridden in SS pelham, when it does PPCup and has to go in a snaffle ;-)

Erm... one!!! Just a loose ring lozenged snaffle. I've also just bought a Neue Schule loose ring tranz angled lozenge thingy too though.
Oh and we do have an ancient cracked pelham on our mantlepiece, along with another ancient rubber straight bar half cheek, but they are both un-usable so I don't think they count!

Two french link snaffles and a loose ring single jointed snaffle. That's it

I sold practically EVERY item of tack I possessed when I moved, big mistake. Mind, as my flaming container STILL hasn't arrived (in Montreal now for some reason) I would have had to buy things anyway. I only have 2 girths as well.

As I can't edit my post, I'll have to ad this here.

I don't intend to be riding lots of horses anymore, so I have no need for a collection to possibly try if it's thought necessary. I only have one that is old enough to have a bit in her mouth and she's only gonna come back into work after 2+yrs off in the next few months. I don't see point in hording them, gathering dust, when someonelse could be using them. Also, they take up too much space and are heavy to move - I'm talking collections here. 2nd hand bits are cheep enough on ebay and/or I'll borrow one to try before purchasing if it's the right one. Life is too short to hang to bits and bobs - NY's resolution btw!!

The above is just my opinion, my reasons and my thoughts atm, it is of course subject to change. Change being a woman's perogative!

Let's just say Chancer already has three bits - his in hand bit, his key bit and his cyprium full cheek french link snaffle - and I think I may need to change this in the next few months for a larger size as the 5" is looking a little small. I also want a plain copper snaffle for showing.

Cairo is nice and simple - one snaffle and his western bit.

I also have various sized and types of doubles, pelhams, gags and snaffles from the TBs which one day I will get round to selling.

I have a sweet-iron french link snaffle, a french link hanging cheek snaffle that is some fancy thing and cost £70 that my mum bought, and a waterford full cheek, a liverpool driving bit, a wilson snaffle and an egbutt snaffle, and i ordered before christmas another french link baucher.

My favourite has to be the waterford because Danny improved tremendously in it and it is mild enough not to ruin his mouth too
