How many chances would you give a new trainer ?

Just curious really because a friend has booked two lessons and both times the trainer has cancelled at the last minute. She had taken day off work to go on saturday and on Friday my friend contacted her to make sure everything was ok and was told yes and confirmed the lorry hire etc. Due to leave at half eight in the morning and at eight fifteen got a call to say don't come because ground hard. Yet she knew forecast night before and do professional trainers really not have an arena ?

Friend very disappointed and looking for someone else now.
 
Depends how genuine it sounds I think. As you say, the excuse of the ground is too hard given at the last minute like that is pretty poor. I'd expect 24 hours notice of a cancellation unless due to exceptional circumstances - just as the trainer would want 24 hours notice.

If you know that your surface freezes easily you'd at least be putting your client's on notice if the forecast was for a freeze.

If the trainer knew she was hiring a box etc then this is really poor!
 
15 mins is ridiculous really! I bet if your friend cancelled on the trainer 15 mins before arrival, she'd be expected to pay a cancellation fee!! I bet the trainer doesn't even offer to discount her next lesson, due to waste of box hire etc!!

I'm afraid I would be looking else where!
 
I don't know where you are but Friday our both our schools one surfaced with passada and one with sand and fibre was absolutely fine and Saturday it was like a rock until midday. We'd had rain earlier in the week so the surface was holding some water and friday night it dropped to about -3C and froze.

Its part and parcel of winter - things get cancelled all the time. Its disappointing but would you have driven to wherever she was and then said I'm not riding on that its like a rock - why didn't you tell me? Unless its an indoor you cant guarantee surfacing.

What was the other reason she cancelled?
 
I would look for someone else or tell the trainer to come to you next time. Once is excusable even twice if forewarned but to cancel at such short notice isn't on especially as she was hiring a box. Surely the trainer could have checked before confirming.
 
Normally I would agree with you but not sure, I think I'd give her another chance the ground is hard and to be honest I cant tell from one day to the next how frozen my sand school's going to be. I am also an instructor but I teach driving and sometimes I do leave it until the last minute to cancel due to weather as I often hope it will change. But if you feel that bad then dont book another lesson.
