How many clips can do / can you do with one set of blades?

[ QUOTE ]
Depends on how clean the hair is and how thick the coat is.

Agree, my last set of blades lasted at least 6 clips, including hunter clips, tails etc

I clip professionally and always use freshly sharpened blades for each client/horse, to avoid 'dragging' and discomfort for the horse.

Yes, it may cost ME a bit more; I don't hike my prices and still charge a normal "going rate"- but I find the peace-of-mind is worth it, (and re-assuring for the human client).

I run seven sets of blades per set of clippers, to be sure of always having fresh blades available; I initially had less sets but found that more were beneficial in the long run, despite the extra expense ! ;-)

Nice Post, oh that all of the so called pro clippers, were sensible like yourself with a good stock of spare blades. Too many to mention are the times I have heard the cry of "my blades are blunt half way through a horse", from people who allegedly clip for a living, yet only have one set of blades. In my experience i have seen people go from not finishing a horse with one set, to clipping 20 horses with one set (20 were household cavalry and you can imagine how clean, dry and well groomed they were) All of which makes a difference, as does the amount of tension, the type of oil etc. Yet people still ask, perhaps the best answer should be "as many as you get!" LOL

mine seem to do 3 full clips on my coarse coated cob and upto 8 clips on TB'S and other fine coated horses, these are wolsely A2 blades and liveryman arena clippers.
