Why are the shippers from here (US) telling my friends (and me as this was the same for Cudo) that on average it's 6 days in transit from leaving their home until they get to Amsterdam and get on the plane???

They're working on the timeline of:

Pickup Friday, ship to Dover. Spend weekend in Dover.
Monday: Have papers issues and load on lorry, go across ferry get to Amsterdam.
Weds: Get on plane and fly.

I would think it would be a lot shorter but it seems not to be. Are we just not understanding the complexity in going from the UK across the channel to France/Holland?

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea why it takes so long, I have only sent one to the US many years ago and it was far simpler, I delivered him to Heathrow, had the documents checked, saw him load into the crate with 2 smart tb's, crate loaded onto the plane and waited until it took off, he arrived safely and went on to his new home fairly quickly where his owners were pleased to be reunited with him.

I suppose they want to get all the horses in one place, Dover, in good time to check everything in full and guess it is also a way of adding to the cost of a package deal.

Agree with BP, I've had 5 of mine go from Heathrow. 3 to Canada and 2 to the states. Also did flying groom for 2 years for plenty of others out of Heathrow.. Not sent anything over the channel to fly, tho have transported a fair number through Europe by road.
I would think it's the transporters collecting a load together and using Dover and then Amsterdam to collect them up. Odd one tho as it's only about 3 to 4 hours from Calais to Amsterdam, so easily doable in half a day. Perhaps just building in traffic and daft horse timings.

I’d say this is a fairly normal timescale....have sent a few to USA this year and whether they have flown out of Amsterdam or Dublin it seems to be a bit less than a week after they’ve left me before they get on their flight. My transporter does seem to like giving them a reasonable amount of rest on each stage of the journey. All have travelled very well.
