My lad is due his last flu & tetnus booster this month (because silly mummy was a day too late getting the annual one done!

I'm off work this week so going to try and schedule it so I'm there to meet the vet but we have our first show on Saturday, a lesson booked to prepare on Wednesday and my Y/O told me that he'll need around 3 days off after the booster!

Is this right? I don't remember giving him this much time off when he got his first and second jab but then that was in the winter when we weren't doing very much!

That sounds a lot. My vet said it was OK to work our lad after a day, as long as it wasn't too hard. It was only a flu booster though.

I generally give them the day they have the jab off, then ride gently out hacking for a couple of days afterwards, unless they have stiff necks in which case they are off until they don't have stiff necks.

I hack mine to the vets for their booster , saves on the call out fee. I was just told not to make them sweat on the way home.

Ditto that, I then work normally unless they appear under the weather. Never had one yet that couldn't be worked normally the following day (i.e. 24hrs later) but it does happen in which case I would rest until they are well in themselves.

i have hacked for mine before but generally give them the day off or ride before vet gets there and then ride as normal from following day - i do my jabs in the chest so no worries about stiff necks.

I hacked mine up to the vet for his booster. Asked vet about riding him home (or not) and the vet said it would be fine. The vet said there is no need for time off with modern vaccines. He's even vaccinated horses at hunt meets before.
