They still have them here, £5 a dog and it is an offence not to have one or to not display it when the dog is in a public place.
There does need to be a happy medium though, it is way too cheap and not very well regulated.

Just one doggie, although I would quite like another :p ... Does the rest of the UK (minus NI as we still have them as CC mentioned) not have dog licences anymore?

Where are you that you have to have a license for a dog?

As for number of dogs - far to many!

I have three of my own, two are rescues, the others that live here one has four terriers, the other five terriers and an elderly Lab.

Plus four Fox Hound pups we are waking. (Normally only have a couple but they were let down for walkers so I was asked if I would have three so what is one more?
Most of these dogs between us are rescues or inherited. All are spayed/neutered all are here for the rest of their lives (except the hound pups, no one in their right mind would want a Fox Hound as a pet, let alone four of them! LOL)
Of the thirteen six are over the age of 12 and pretty fit for their ages. A couple need bifocals and hearing aids but other than that they are fine.

I've got 2 at the moment a 10 year old Australian Keplie x and a 7 year old jack russell. Although I am looking to rehome a staffy or staffy x in the next couple of weeks, as there so many stuck in rescues.

I'd be happy to pay a licence for the dogs, but I think they would struggle to get all those irresponsible owners to bother getting them. Which is unfair.

The dog licence in England was 7/6d or 37 and a half p. No idea what that would be at today's values but if it were reintroduced I am sure the same problem would be exoerienced - the responsible ones would buy them and the irresponsible flout the rules. I do remember though when I found my first puppy, (just after Christmas thrown out like the rubbish) feeling proud to go to the Post Office and buying a licence for her. It was just a small piece of paper.

Got one and a second dog(is not really mine but I've done so much with it)
My dog is a mixt husky... really good for hunting my GOD... she bring me ANYTHING (not to big neather lol) She is good for rabbits... big ones. But she was kicked last year by a horse who went in my field... poor dog, and my horse is very strong and dont share is territory with others animal (unless horses)... I can't take her for my futur hunting so:(

The other on is a silly Pit pull... that was use badly when he was younger... He attact EVERYTHING even after years of training... I can't bring him anywere... (pseodo pic:p) My horse s too strong to be scared of him and the dog had to run to live lol.

(maybe a pic coming...)

We have 3 dogs, 2 Dobermanns brother & sister age 2yrs 8months both rescue. 1 Lancashire Heeler bitch puppy 20wks old.

We often have more as they have their friends for sleep overs, atm we have a 6ys black Greyhound bitch staying whilst friends are on holiday, other friends dogs which stay are a Springer Spaniel and 2 black Labradors.

We used to have the old 7/6 licences for all our dogs (there was no block license for breeders as I recall) but as it wasn't enforced at all was a waste of time, and a bit like the horse passport scheme the ones who should have been licensed were the ones who didn't bother.
I would have no problem in paying a reasonable amount for a license if I thought it would help, but as in the past suspect the bad dog owners wouldn't bother.

I've got 4 living with me and 3 at my mum's.

It'd be like everything else if they brought it back, like someone's already said the responsible ones will, the others won't.

You're supposed to have a licence if you've got X amount of breeding bitches on the premises - can't remember how many it is

just 1 :) Lola bear!!

re dog licenses - I can see the logic. However I recently read that as much as £20,000 can be put on a dog fight... whats a £100 p/yr license to them? The backstreet breeders charge lots for their poor pups .. again another £100 to someone that would already pay £400 for a designer pup? The bitches will just have to have more litters to pay for their licenses!

I agree something needs to be done and regulated.. I'm not sure a license is the way to go. Unless, you had to do a 'test?' and all bitches/dogs had to be graded to breed...?

Sadly, I don't think there will ever be an end to cruelty, poor breeding and fighting etc.

*please excuse me if Ive misunderstood the dog license.. I don't know very much about them*

2. One is licensed as he is in NI and the other isn't although we did try when we moved here and got funny looks as apparently you scrapped them aaages ago. :o

3.

An old dog Ive had for years, and two young ones of my OH's. I wasnt planning to have anymore dogs once the old one died, and so wasnt overjoyed at having puppies again.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF A POODLE. :p:p

seriously i do not like them.

I like em, sparky things and they have a good work ethic, believe it or not, don't be fooled by all the hair, there are a couple of standard poodles working in Schutzhund in the UK and quite a few in the USA.
