How many horses can you sell before you are a trader

In need of some advise. Does anyone know the number of horses you can sell in a year before you are classed as a trader.

I think it depends on whether you are doing it for profit or not and how much you make on it.

Well i class a trader as someone who buys horses to sell at a profit asap.

If i see regular ads from the same person then i would class them as a trader.

It is either 3 or 5, can't remember which. I know trading standards do trawl the papers for adverts and check phone numbers to see who should be paying tax etc.

It is not just how many horses you sell it is also what you do for a living, so if a livery yard sold 1 horse in a year they would still be classed as trade.

It used to be 3 but things may have changed since I lived in England.
