How many horses did it take to find 'the one'?

well my last mare i tried between 10-15 and 99% of those were turned down due to some horrendous lies we were told by the sellers!!

I dont know if Digby is my one (he certainly is atm) but he was the 3rd horse i tried and first i had vetted

Took me 9 months and many many miles and horses finally found "the one". I new he was the one from the moment he nibbled my jacket! Love at first sight and we have an amazing bond and wouldn't be without him for the world.

Feeling a bit foolish, but what is QR?!

My first was "the one" for sure, and for years I was convinced I'd never love another horse like that, but now me and F have something special too. You might still find your "one" but that doesn't make what you've got with your current two any less amazing (if that makes sense?)

Sorry, I'm getting a bit soppy!!

QR means quick reply, so not a direct response to the last poster, more a general reply.

There most certainly could be another 'the one' in the future but you'll have to forgive me if I consider that a bit of romantic claptrap. I have always loved every horse I owned or loaned dearly and made sacrifices for them, they have responded in the main by giving me the best they could and each one has been a very special individual in their own way.

The bond of trust between people and animals is amazing, but that bond can be acheived with most horses and ponies, then it comes down to whether they can perform at a level that you require them to, which is an entirely different question

took a few to find Andy and he is my horse of a lifetime for sure.!!
had one for 11 months (had 3 horses vetted before that one passed) he wasn't suitable for me at all, part-ex'd him for my mare, i've had her 11 yrs now, took a while for us to click but she is very special and we had a lot of fun.. got Andy 5.5 yrs ago, only saw one before i saw him and the rest, as they say, is history.!!
i love my horse.!!!

I have loved all of my horses so much.
The only reason I would want something other than April is to jump above 3ft and I can wait for that. (and to be fair this time last year we could only do 2'3 with histronics so she is going great guns for an oldie!)

April is over 20 and I love her to bits and will invest as much time and effort in her as it takes to make her happy.
Anyone who has read my posts yesterday on the 'agressive pony' thread will know just what a difference we have made to each other!
(I was bitter about losing my old horse to grass sickness and hated being around horses and April was a real problem pony!)

I will only give her up when she needs to fully retire and I hope that's a long time away

I tried about 12 horses before I bought my first but he was a mistake so sold him after about 6 months and then tried about 20 horses before I found Pete who is perfect for me. He was what I wanted when I bought him and we have come a long way together as my nerve was shot to pieces. He has given me the confidence to do shows and dressage which I never thought I would want to do. Sorry to go on but he is the best!!!

about 10 horses over about a year, and it was weird cos none of them made me go 'i really like this horse', even a £5,000 beauty of a chestnut i went to view to see what was on the 'higher end' of the market. When i saw Zak i said to mum 'i really like him'!!And he really is the perfect horse for me

I definately did the make do thing with D
blush.gif
He was totally unsuitable for me but I carried on and bought him. We have had some great times and he has taught me so much and still does (well he teaches me to move quicker otherwise he headbutts me out the way!!) I do feel as though I owe him alot even though he was not really suitable which is why he is still with me and always will be even though he's retired now

As soon as I got on Monty I knew he was 'the one'
grin.gif
I was looking for something a bit different and certainly was not looking for a yellow saddlebred x arab standing at 16.3hh
grin.gif
I was looking for that safe feeling as D always felt like an unexploded time bomb. I only walked and trotted Monty, never cantered when I tried him and only walked him up a track behind his field I didn't go in any traffic

God knows what I was thinking

but it's turned out ok, he's lovely for a big scabby donkey

15 horses with 2 horses failing the vet. I have travelled around 200 miles radius of my horse.

We have seen some holy horrors. We went to go and see a 'mother and daughter hack' who was said to be very calm and sensible. We turned up at their yard. When they saddled her up and took her out to the school, she was bucking/rearing/napping etc. They then GALLOPPED her around the school around 8 times before she was calm enough to get on!

When I asked if she had ever trotted into a fence, the rider replied; "What for, you only ever canter into a fence in a competition!" Hmm... needless to say we never bought it. However, it didn't put me off dealers!

I bought the second horse I saw. First one was a joggy, spooky hunter. Not really suitable in any way apart from weight carrying ability. Then went to see Sidney, who was perfect on paper... and in the flesh!

I've had him for two months, and he is an absolutely wonderful horse, who has taught me a lot and gives me so much confidence. I'm so lucky I found him

Hmmm, with Berry, we went to see LOADS of horses of varying types and tbh, I don't really remember too much about it all - it was 20yrs ago and I wasn't even in Secondary school! I sold him coz it was time for us to part and I knew it was the right thing for him, he's did an awesome job riding and driving with the RDA from May 13th 1997 to April 29th 2007 and now I have him back for his retirement - retirement from driving that is.... I'm very proud of him and although he regularly throws his toys out of the pram and winds me up (ask Thistle), I love him dearly! Though not as much as he loves food!!

B, well I think fate played a HUGE part in us finding each other! I wasn't even looking for a horse. I was caught up in terrible depresison, trying to deal with my Daddy dying and other shite and there she was in a month old copy of HORSE magazine. "Mare by Sportsnight" it said (for those that don't know, I used to work with him and even though he's been dead for over 10 years now, I still miss him and had/have always wanted one of his progeny) The number in the advert was the same area code as where I was living then and it turned out that the woman that was selling her lived about 1/4 of a mile from me!! The rest, as they say is history.....

Topper - I knew I wanted him the moment I laid eyes on him. Though I went ot view him with my sister, for her to buy - she didn't want him though, was scared of his size - 17.1hh Shire X TB. I didn't buy him as such, but took him on in hope of sorting out some of his physical issues. I'm glad that I had that year with him - he was a wonderful animal and I really do miss him. Such a gentle soul, but oh such a worrier! RIP Tops.

Hector - Well I'm biased, my first homebred and as they say, I got lucky!!
