How many horses do you all have?

One on DIY livery (although I have him bought in when at work) about 15 miles from home. One is more than enough for me when combined with a 45-50 hour a week full time job, plus other non-horsey commitments & interests and seeing family/friends.

I could manage two financially, but horses would then all encompassing and I enjoy my non-horsey life too at the moment.

I have 3, one lives with my friend's mare as a companion and I have 2 at DIY livery. The yards are 12 miles apart. I used to do them both every day, horses at DIY twice and the mare at least once but when I was quite ill last year my friend took over more and now I just pop in every couple of weeks. She's in excellent hands there and I have an excellent friend who has given me my life back.

I don't exactly struggle to afford them, but sometimes I struggle to do anything else, and as much as I love the horses I would like to do other things too. Soon, sadly, we will be down to 1 on the DIY yard. Of course this will be easier financially and logistically, but our hearts will be poorer for it.

Now only one horse. Lost one in April. He's pretty much retired, just trundling out once a week. He's a 25 year old Gelderlander and I keep him at a lovely private yard. He's a happy old gentleman!

I have 2 mares at DIY livery 25 minutes from home and about 70 minutes from work. I work full time Mon-Fri, sometimes Sun, usually 8-4 but some shifts.

I don't do anything with them at the moment, older one on boxrest and I feel like all my time is taken up looking after her so younger one doesn't get much work. I used to do riding club type comps with older one, with a view to eventing next year, younger one I hope to bring on to do the same eventually.

I have 3. My old mare who is retired and her mini companion and my new young 5 yr old who is on part livery. More than enough for me to do. I work 4 days as a nurse and wouldn't want to be rushing around. This way I can enjoy them all.

I have 4 soon to be 5
I dont really want 5 and would dearly love just one! Ones my daughters two are companion ponies (one wouldn't settle alone!) and one is my horse who has had to retire this year so number 5 will be my horse to ride (if i ever have time)
I work part time and have one daughter

I have 5 on DIY, 4 in full work and a youngster just being backed.

I have cats, dog, toddler and work full time. Fun, Fun, Fun! :)

Just how??! Hats off to you, lady. I just can't imagine how this could work!!

Surprised by the larger number of horses lots of responses list. Most people I know have one, two tops (I also have 2, one retired).

I have five at home, but four of them belong to my daughters who ride them and care for them. Also have one out on loan at a riding school as he was only happy to work if he was following another bum!

I'm doing well - subject to vetting of 2 tomorrow I'll be down to 66. Ranging from yearlings to 24/25yo retirees and everything in-between. 6 being backed at present - more due to come in. Obviously I have help. And if you want a nice young horse over 15.2 you know where to come!

I have 4 at home, one is retired and the others are in work, although my youngster's not doing much yet. I work full time but am freelance so can fit work around the horses - if I want to ride in the afternoon and work a few hours in the evening to catch up, I can.

I have 4- had 2 for a while, then accidentally gained 2 ponies (4 yo new forests) last spring. so last spring/summer/autumn I backed them while still riding my other 2.
I work 2 jobs- a school 8.30-3.15, plus a charity play center Wednesday night, Friday night and Saturday. I am also a groom for 2 horses down the road from me, 3 days a week, most weeks (when owners are away for work) so adds up to 50 hours a week term time, plus groom work.
Mine are on rented field & have a barn 10 minutes walk from field. I have 2 friends next to mine for emergencies, but pretty much there twice a day all year, 5.30 am in the winter when they come in.
Winters are a slog- no flood lights, turn out with head torch, so only ride Sundays.
This summer is very boring as I am now 8 months pregnant! So stopped riding- as the youngsters are too unpredictable, so is my mare at times, and sadly my oldest, who I was riding while pregnant as he is brilliant, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, so can't risk riding. OK out grazing on painkillers at the moment, but sadly will be down to 3 by winter. Now part time as school holidays, still doing groom work and second job until I pop baby out! then will continue groom work on maternity leave to top off my terrible maternity pay!

I have two :) Work full time as a teacher, so lovely summer hols but usually at work for 7.30am and finish about 5.30/6pm most of the year (later if I have a parents' evening or open evening). They are on DIY livery which is hard, but I prefer it to part which I've tried in the past. I have some help from sister and OH, who bring in for me most week days in winter! Couldn't do it without them :)

You all make me feel dreadfully lazy. I own one horse who is on full livery 5 minutes from home. I do have a reason as I live abroad for 3 months in the winter.
However I cannot seem to keep away and go down virtually every day, either to have a ride or play with him. We are both elderly pensioners and are enjoying just having a relaxing time

Just the one here! I wouldn't have the time for more than the one, unless only one was a riding horse. I work anywhere from 22-60hrs per week, plus I study full time, plus any babysitting I do. Having more than one horse for me isn't fair on either horses or myself, I tried and failed. Well, no I would have time but not the amount of time I like to spend with my horses.
