How many horses do you have? And what for?

3:

Old lad, irish cob, 20+, he's semi-retired (just hacks and plays in summer).

Fergs, highland, rising 7, my "competition" pony / main ride

Daemon, highland, 3, latest break in project (will be my 2nd ride when he's mature)

Definitely don't need three, but I wouldn't part with them for the world!

2 - 19yr old cob who is semi retired to hacking but can be a handful when he wants to be
11yr old ex racer on loan from trc who is hopefully going to be a good alrounder but mainly eventing for me to gain more confidence. Not had her long so still getting sorted with her

I have 3!

My first 'pony' a now 20year old 15hh thoroughbred who I converted to dressage 3 years ago and we are training medium and competing elem.

A rising 6 year old appy x welsh 15hh gelding. He is my horse of a life time! We are slowly moving up the dressage levels.

A rising 4 year old connie x ish. 15.2hh. I swapped her for my old exmoor intending to keep her as a project but my whole family has fallen in love with her and she is proving extremely talented for dressage!

I own Larry 16yo WB who show jumps I am slowing his jumping down now as he owes me nothing and want him to be sound for as long as poss and he also Show's and he will be with me for the rest of his days no matter what he is my 1 in a million :D

Robbie 11yo tb ex racer he now show jumps, shows and worker's he will also be with us for life....

My younger sister has 2

Vic 19 yo Sec B who does not do alot he is a sick note lol But he does show inhand and my friend children ride him every now and then he will be with us forever

Slyiva 8yo WB who show's and is going to start dressage..

Then my older sister horse

Abbey 23yo SF who is as mad as a box of frogs but can not be ridden due to neurological problems...

Safe to say all will be with us until there time come's :D

OP : don't do it! Having multiple ridden horses is NOT the same as having a ridden horse and a youngster/oldie/companion!

I have three.

A ridden 6yr old cob who's on part loan to a severely disabled rider. He's on assisted livery and I ride him a couple of times a weeks.

An older cob mare who needs more work than I currently give her. She also gets ridden a couple of times a week.

A 3yr old ISH who thankfully isn't ridden yet.

HAVING to ride 2 horses most days takes the fun out of it and it can be a chore. And if you don't ride both regularly you feel guilty.

It's easier if you're on a decent livery where all you need to do is muck out and ride in a school. But it's really hard if you need to do everything else too (poopick, fencing, water, hay in field etc). And even more so if hacking is your main riding. With a school you can at least lunge for 15min to give some exercise. 15min of hacking will bearly get you out the drive way.

Thanks everyone! Lots of different combinations of horses that people have :D
Big decision and lots to think about. I rent my own field so no mucking out etc as they are out all year round with access to a field shelter. Water from the river. So the only thing I have to do for them really is poo pick and maintain the field. Hence when the clocks change I have more than enough time to ride 2 but winter will have to be thought about long and hard :)

Currently me and my mum have 2, but Honeys going at the end of the month so I'll just have my little mare!
She's a welsh a, absolute monster and I got her originally to show inhand but have never had the oppertunity. Going to be so much easier with just the one :)

I have a 20 yr old Arab mare, who has been out of work for a while so her main purpose is ornamentation and general entertainment (she is brilliant :D). IF she can be brought back into work she will be, but I'm not risking her health and soundness for my own enjoyment, so we'll have to see.

Then I also have a 9 yr old Welsh D gelding who isn't really mine, but I look after him while his owner is away at university. He's my happy hacking pony at the moment :D

One rising seven year old 14.2 arab gelding for riding around on and general pratting about with. Hopefully he'll take to endurance and prove tough enough, but if not, we both like doing fun rides.

3 I have 1 elderly mare for grooming treating and cuddling, a 14.1 for hacking schooling and jumping, this is the one I compete. Third horse is 16.3 ex racer. Same use as pony but not currently competing as doesn't fit in the lorry comfortably. :-(

Only 2 now to worry about. 1 18yr old Pure bred Arab. 1 22yr old Chilean bred ex polo pony.

I ride my Arab and the old chap takes the grandkids about occasionally but frankly is a paddock ornament now.

I would like another Arab foal to produce but my hubby has put his foot down. Sigh.

One, and that's quite enough on top of work / housework / keeping fit / seeing OH occasionally. I'm always in awe of people who manage to keep two or more ridden horses in proper work; that would be enough to put me off for life!

If I won the lottery and didn't have to work, it might be different :D

I have 3 polo ponies at home, one english TB mare, one argentine mare and one french TB gelding.

Oh and another on loan to a friend, and another has just gone down to her lovely retirement home.

I have 2 but keep them with my dad and stepmum's 3. I have a 22 year old who I ride and a 4 year old that I am backing at the moment. The idea is that I will be able to retire my old mare gradually and have a youngster to bring on. The other 3 are my dad's riding horse, my stepmum's retired cob and my dad's pony who isn't ridden at the moment. Out of the 5 only 2 are currently in proper work.

at home i have a 14.2 hh traditional gypsy cob used for hacking
also have a 32 inch Shetland pony who is 3 years old as a campanion and will be a pony for our 1st child who is due in a couple of weeks to potter about with

6

All of them trained in the art of eating money :D

lol I think my horses attended the same training programme!

I have 3

one is my daughter's Tb gelding, he does a bit of everything, a horse with a really good mind he is!
one is my loan horse, she does mostly happy hacking, sometimes I attempt to school her
she is worth her weight in gold!

one is my daughter's Tb mare, bought with high hopes but all she does is occasionally hack, be constant companion to my friend's Tb mare and expertly trained to stand around looking pretty and costing money

I have 2.
13 year old appy mare. Used as a happy hacker at the moment, well she was but is now stuffing her face as I'm having back problems
Rising 4 appy filly, will be an allrounder, plenty of showing hopefully.

I have 5!

Tb gelding, my all rounder/fun horse.
Tb gelding 2 I hope to do dressage with.
Tb gelding 3 is my field pet
Tb gelding 4 is 3's companion and a light hack
Irish boy is a great well schooled all rounder who I compete unaffiliated

Love my boys but they cost me a bomb! Was considering down sizing but I can't!

I also have sole charge 24/7/365 of
4 minatures
1 minature med donkey
1 sec a
1 sec b
1 dartmoor
1 welsh x Arab
1 fjord pony
2 tbs and 1 id!

Luckily my boss has downscaled as I had sole charge of 40 at one point and it was awfull!

Ps all are at same place and all are in at the moment!!

1 officially! !! 9:3hh. Purpose to look at and go awwww.....until he runs under the electric fence then it's "little s*d". I have wealthier friends than me who seem to collect horses whom I love as my own & often ride. I treat them as my own too. Takes the pressure off over her. Best of both worlds :-)
