How many horses has everyone got and how do they cope...

We have 2 between me and my sister

Dont have to cope because they are on full livery monday-friday as we just cant get up the yard due to college and school commitments and mum doesnt want to drive us there contantly
 
I seem to have 4 in the winter and 1 in the summer.
Wife and daughter seem more available to do their horses when the weather is warmer.

My boss has a saying about work expanding to fill the time available... so if you add more staff, they won't get MORE done in the same amount of time, they will just go a little slower. He has a rather cyncial world view (!) but I think the same principle applies to having multiple horses too.

I only have the one at the moment, but I had two in the Summer and I've had responsibility for two/three at times during winter (looking after friend's horses). I work about 45hrs a week as well, 30 odd in an office, the rest on the yard and my yard is about 20mins drive from my house so I do have to be mega organised.

Having one is definately more 'restful' but once you get into a rhythm with two or more you can put in place little 'systems' to make it easier like alternating 'thorough' muckouts, doing the waters in a certain order, filling all the haynets at the same time, getting two lots of fresh straw at once etc etc all of which cut the time down. I also find that my riding gets more 'focussed' so I can fit 1hrs worth of schooling into 45mins...

I have to say though, I LOVE having just the one at the moment

cos having time to talk horses with friends or just messing about with my horse is one of the best parts of DIY livery I think.
 
I have one, but he is a youngster and was bought to keep Toffee company, and Troggy does most of the work! I do the easy bits, like organising hay and insurance, and washing rugs etc, she does the dirty smelly stuff! Oh, I pay his bills... They are both at home, be very hard otherwise as Troggy leaves home at 7.50am and doesn't return until 6pm.
 
ARGH! This is the bain of my life.

I have 3 horses - all in work, all competition animals. All kept at home and I do 99% of the work myself. Mum feeds the at lunchtime and swops them over so the nutcase can go out on his own.

I train with a trainer 3 times a week at 8am

I also commute to my job which is 45 mins away and ride the other 2 when I get home. I have absolutely no time but I somehow still manage a fairly nice social life and am not too too knackered at night.

I have no idea how much longer I can carry on coping though without having a nervous breakdown!! This is why I'm looking for a home for one of them.

I have 3, 1 in work (6yo), 1 oap (28) and 1 filly (nearly 2), they are all in at night at the moment, I don't work but have to fit in around school runs and household duties (not that much gets done!) so go up after dropping kids off in morning muck out, do water buckets, hays, if they are out great, if not then lunge or ride 6yo, take filly for a walk (oap is usually allowed out even if others aren't), then home, and go back up after picking kids up from school get back home around 5.30.
 
I have three, all stabled at night. I dont find it a problem and have had six in one go. I think you just get quicker and dont fuss round, no time to waste.

I am happy with three the only problem with having more is the poo picking and paddock maintenance that seems to take up an awful lot of time.
 
Lol i have 2 and finish work at 5pm, have to get home and then its 30min drive to yard so there by 6pm usually put beds down for 4 or muck out completely if they've not been done, bring them in feed, change rugs etc ride my 2 and i'm usually home at about 9.30pm, dinner at 10pm then straight to bed - yes i have no life during the week!

We have 4 all kept at home. Two are companions, two are in work. I work full time. My 15 yo daughter does loads and my OH helps muck out in the morning. We keep them out 24/7 in a few acres just 100 yards up the road until december. Dec - March we use our home field which is right next to our house and stables. We then have them out by day and in at night to eke out the grass.

Between the three of us we can rug up, turn out, drain hay, put hay out, muck out 4 stable, sweep yards, make up evening feed, and fill up evening hay nets in 30mins (so I suppose that equates to 1 1/2 hours for one person), sometimes we can get a few minutes poo picking in too!

Evenings my daughter gets stables ready and we bring them in and ride when I am home from work, then we get as much prepared for the morning as poss. In all honesty riding tends to slip a little in the winter, we try to ensure the two ridden ones get at least 3 good sessions a week, as opposed to 6 sessions in the summer. Doesnt seem to have affected their fitness too much, we are all very fit though and have no trouble sleeping at night! In fact I only have to look at my sofa in the evening and I am gone - roll on summer.
 
I own 12 horses and also have another 13 liveries. This is just my work down on't farm, so it's what I do.

Most of them are out 24/7 though; there are only 3 stabled horses so it's pretty quick and easy to do them all.
 
i have two up here on diy
get up at 6.30 horses by 7, muck out,feed,turnout and bring in do haynets and waters and be done by 8,
work at 9 til 5.15,
horses at 5.30, feed, muck out turnout and bring in,water,hay and am done by 7.
then same the next day.
cant wait for them to be out all day and then 24/7!!!
